I have a Schrade 127UH stag handle knife (says "Uncle Henry" on the plate), with silver bolsters; however the blade tang is stamped 125ot. ????? It comes with a brown cardboard Uncle Henry box with UH127 stamped on the side. The sheath says "Schrade" but looks like an Uncle Henry sheath (with the large flaps.)
Does anyone out there know anything about this knife? Any information?

Welcome to the forum!

The 127UH was in production twice, 1968- 1969, and again 1972- 1988.

The 125OT was introduced in 1972 and was in production until 1997. Like the 127UH, it was a single blade 5 1/4" hunter.

Plenty of overlap there, and yep, I would say that your knife is a 'mutt' but a very nice one. It has the good looks of the Uncle Henry Staglon handles and the usefullness and desiribility of the carbon steel Old Timer blade. The result of a worker at the end of a shift, ready for the weekend, or late for lunch. An honest mistake, unlike some of the last issues by Schrade where knives were put together much quicker, to fill important orders.

We can narrow the date of your knife by looking at whether or not it has the hole in the bolster for a lanyard or thong.. In all production years except 1974- 1975 there was a hole in the bolster.

Thanks for bringing your question to us. Enjoy the fine old knive you own.

Phil
ps.. there was also a hole in the bolster of the 127UH from 1968- 1969, but the 125OT hadn't been produced yet, making it pretty clear that the knife in question was mistakenly put together during the second production run.

Any other information from you other guys?

Another option is that the 127UH was sent in for repairs and came home with a 125 blade. Only Debbie could verify that for us as she was incharge of that area for a while. It and many others will forever remain a mystery.

Excellent, Larry. I hadn't considered that. Again, would be a great knife to own, whatever the circumstances.

Thanks to both of you, Phil and Larry for your insight! Yes the knife was purchased in the 80's.

I am very curious as to how Debbie can tell me if a knife was sent in for repair. Is there something I can look for or noticed?

I'm not sure how to use this site, so if Debbie could tell me I would appreciate.

Thanks again, David

David, Debbie, AKA UHFan, was a Schrade repair person and unofficial Schrade historian. She lost her job when the Ellenville factory was closed and we have not heard from her in a while. You can search the threads using the search feature above, and see the knowledge she has of Schrade product history. She has not frequented this site in a while and her presence is sorely missed.

I'm afraid that the best you can do is guess at that knife's heritage. But both Phil and Larry have given you the straight scoop.

I can give you door number three, and that is what I think LT would suggest as well.... you might just have a Monday knife. A single blade in the wrong barrel on the wrong day. Whatever the case, you have a unique knife to own and enjoy!

Codger

Well Phil, Larry and Codger- all of you have given great insight. It's nice to have something that's a little different and unusual. Not all mysteries need to be solved.

Appreciated,
David
