i "won" the Schrade+/U.S.A. 127UH pictured below. the ebay post only showed pic. of knife open. when closed the tip is exposed. i have cleaned tang/liners/springs. i can see buff marks near the tip and comparing it to a Schrade/U.S.A. 125OT, the blade is shorter.
i think the tip of the 127 was broken off and then re-ground (and well done).
my question is: will filing the kick down allow the tip to be enclosed without the blade edge bottoming out ? is there a way to tell when any more removal of kick will bottom out blade ? or, leave it as is ? thanks, roland

Unless there is something inside the knife to block the blade form seating fully in the frame, (I am sure you checked), then filing the kick should fix it. You would have to file it a long way before the blade will hit the backspring, but watch for that as you file.

Let us know how it turns out.

I've never made an adjustment like this, but I do have some knives that have had it done. One thing to watch out for is making the blade sit so low that the mark is not accessable. I have to use a knife blade to pry open some of these "repaired" knives.

Ivankerley you're right. that's isabella's hand. she just turned 2 and has had a keen interest in daddy's knife collection for at least a year. with supervision i let her examine, hold and open my knives. long before she hits kindergarten she will know a Case from a Schrade, from a Bulldog, etc and a trapper from a stockman, etc. it's important to keep this body of knowledge alive ! (her knife is a Case tiny trapper in bonestag; beautiful little knife and it fits her hand. (who knew Case made knives for 2 year olds ! )
i'll file the kick soon and post a pic. showing results. that's why i like used knives; it's o.k. to tinker with them and tinkering with knives is fun; betcha we all agree on that. roland

well just a couple of minutes with a file and it closes fine. it's a perfectly good user knife. i bought 3 cheapo Taylor sheaths and it fits o.k., so next friend that comes by, i'll give him a gift. roland
