This is a Bowie I forged out of 5160 at the Trackrock hammer-in. It has an 8" blade, the handle is sambar stag, and the guard and butt cap are wrought iron from an old wagon axel. It will be making the trip to Atlanta next week. Hope you like it.

I like it very much. The wrought iron guard looks good and that is a nice piece of stag.

your hope is my command. I like it too.

Looking good there Harry. I knew that you and a hammer would get along just fine. CRex has slowly brought you to the "dark-side". Of course, anything that you and Charlie attempt is always "Top-Notch".

See you at Blade................ Robert

Excellente! The stag is fantastic in terms of color, texture, shape, and size--little grinding for a perfect fit.

Thanks for the comments. Stag has always been one of our favorite handle materials. We think of it as natures micarta, it's tough and there is just not much out there that looks better to us. For high carbon steels we use 5160, 1084 and 1095 depending on the knife, the performance and the look we want it to have. We enjoy forging them as well as stock removal. Most of our work is custom ordered and so much, such as steel type, is dictated by the customer and the use he has of our knife. The majority of our knives are made of CPM S30V or CPM 3V, but when I get to make one I like, the forge gets hot and the steel is carbon. So I guess the answer to your question is yes. There will likely always be a Bowie forged from carbon steel on the way.
