There once was a Shiba Inu named REX. Or, as I like to call him, "Rexter", "Wex" and even "Wexter". He loved to surf the Busse combat forum on his laptop:

He was a big clown as you can see in this next pic which was the result of his right paw being bitten by a German Shepard (who is lucky to be alive).

He was a strange dog when it came to sleeping habits:

One day, Mister Rexter decided to rip open a trash bag that was left in the kitchen instead of being placed outside. Inside this trash bag was a box of chicken bones left over from his masters hot wings consumed earlier in the night. Mister Rex devoured around what I believe was 7 bones!! When we realized what had happened, we rushed him to the vet that morning. He seemed fine until we saw the xrays. There were fragments of bones all through his stomach and 3 solid bones swallowed whole. One of those had a very sharp end that our vet knew would not go either direction without doing some damage. The vet also said we were lucky that Rex didn't choke to death during consumption. My poor boy had to go into surgery an hour later and this is what was removed:

(I left the pic in link form because it's kind of gross. Click at your own risk)

Rex made it through surgery and is healing up just fine. Our vet told us multiple stories about removing socks, toy parts, rocks, wood chunks and in one case, a golf ball. We learned to NEVER leave anything on the floor or within reach of our furry children. This lesson cost us $1300, but I would have given up my entire Busse collection to save him.

Yes indeed when it comes to the Fur Kids the money just seems to blur into insignificance...!!!!

One year we spent 10K at the vet on our two... I would do it again and again if I needed !!!! The two we have now both have their own health insurance and have done since Day 1 at home...!!! worth every cent !!!!

I am glad he is OK and I am more than glad that you realised what had happened and had the bloody good sense to act BEFORE it was a true emergency...!!!!!!!!!

Cute guy and glad he's okay now. Expensive lesson but glad he's still around to make you smile.

I know how you feel man, spent almost 10 grand on double knee replacements for my dog only to have him get untreatable bone cancer and die a year later.. I woulda done anything to save him. I wasn't so fortunate, I'm happy you were .

He was quite the happy lazy mush ball

Glad to hear he is doing well.

One of our boys goes in Monday to have TPLO surgery...again. Simply, he tore his ACL last fall. He had surgery in December to repair his right knee and while he was recovering he was putting more weight on his left knee. So, he wound up tearing his left ACL during the recovery period. After next week, it's another 4 months of limited movement and physical therapy.

Still, I'd give everything I have to keep the boys healthy and safe. I couldn't ask for better companions, home security, or loyal friends.....

Cute pup, Glad to hear he's OK. I completely understand, I'd sell off any of my possessions to save my dogs !!

Man really glad to hear everything worked out. Would be a shame to lose such a great looking pal to a chicken bone.

Thanks everyone!! I just hope this story may make someone here double check that trash bag, take away that toy that's following apart, or not allow their furry child to chew on socks. I would be in a pretty bad place right now if I had lost Rex especially for something I could have easily avoided. And remember, when in doubt, X-RAY!!! Catching something like this early or just having the piece of mind that nothing is there is worth the cost. We had his little sister checked as well even though we were 99% sure she didn't eat anything.

I have had my fair share of dog expenses in the past, and continue to have, but I wouldn't have it any other way. Anything for my darling Murray.

So glad it all worked out for you and the Rexter.

Awww that is the cutest pup! It is insane the things dogs will eat. My old dog Sammie ate a whole rubber sandal once. . . . They have stomachs like steel traps! I am glad to hear your puppy is doing ok

Oh WoW....Glad you were able to react so quickly and that Rex is doing well!!!!

My four legged Flea Farm has a bad habit of selecting just the right diameter of Pecan Logs from the Wood Pile to exercise his jaws...you'd think he was never fed so I have to constantly examine his mouth
to ensure there are no toothpicks....I use to think he was short on a mineral....I finally realized he was a bag of fries short of a happy meal...Love 'em to death though...:D

That right there is LOVE!! :D

That's great he made it through ok.

Our German Shepherd "Frank" is continuously counter surfing so I know what you mean about not leaving things out. Just last week we brought home Italian for dinner and in the bag were like 30 packets of butter for the bread. We left the room to put our 2yr old son to sleep....

...he's still crapping out the plastic containers.

Gotta love our pets!!

Ok first off....That little pup is freaking ass cute as heck!

Glad he is ok and yes, they do become an equal member of the family at times. And like your kids.....love out weighs money.

glad he is ok - looks like a nice guy :D

reminds me of my abyssinian - he eats everything - silicone hoses, glass shards - i have to be really careful - also had to go through surgery at one time - i could do without vet invoices :D
