My 1311 is by far my longest owned and favorite Bussekin. I forgot all about this battle scar from my last camping trip until I pulled it out today.

Do I just take a file to it and knock it down to smooth? Any insight on how to get her ready for my next trip is much appreciated!

I'd get a nice flat face hammer and a piece of steel or something to back it. Then I'd hit that back into place. Working from the bulged side. Try and realign it first before sharpening. If not it'll make quite the notch in your blade.

Also start with light taps.

It started as a little dent in that area a few trips ago. Last trip it just blew out. I'll try knocking it back to flat, thanks for the suggestion!

I just want it to keep going for a long life, dont want to have small damage turn into big damage. Making me think I need to pick up a backup for the long haul as I would hate to not have one by my side anytime I am in the woods.

Man, if you're worried send it in, the crew will fix it up and you probably won't even notice. I'd personally feel better seeing that fixed with a belt, but that's easy for me to say since I have a 2x72 KMG.

If you really can't see yourself carrying anything else than I think getting a second is a no brainer

I really would not do that .....................again, I had a NMFBM that I waffled the edge doing dumb stuff and tried the hammer thing and it did not work out
hardened steel and banging with a hammer on a flat piece of steel = notch taken out of the edge.

I would send it in.

Yeah that steel is already weak and banging it with a hammer risks running stress fractures deeper into the blade. I prescribe bench grinder.

Since there’s nothing for scale in the pic I don’t know what I’d do personally. Is the dent a couple mm long or like 1/4”?

Just from the look of it I’d probably send it in.

I would sharpen it out. I get the feeling that if you hammer that back into shape you will have a spot that will break out the next time you use it.

Welcome home baby!!!!

It's safe to say that the vast majority of other knife steels would have chipped out under that impact.

Our knives, on the other hand, just love a good beating!:eek::eek:

The other good news is, that now, you don't have to worry that your knife will run away in search of a more abusive home!:eek:;););)

Send it in with return S&H and we'll take care of that for free!!! . . . .:cool:

Put it to my attention and it will be done!

Let's Drink!

This is why I love Busse's.:)

Agree with all the comments to not bang on it. And huge props to the Boss for jumping in.

One think you might try is to clamp the blade tight in a vice and use a hard smooth steel rod (think fat screwdriver shaft or a smooth knife steel) Stroke as though sharpening and you might be able to smoosh the steel back in line. As Jerry said, INFI has much better ductility than many other steels.

How awesome is it to get the owner to chime in!

I will not bang on it. I was hoping I could fix it myself but probably best to just send her in.

I love all my Busse knives and this 1311 has processed a lot of wood. Been thrown at trees and stumps. I couldnt be happier and Jerry is right, a lesser knife would have simply broke or lost a huge chunk of steel.

This one has my Scrap yard forum number on it from the original release, I have loved it since day one! I'll send it off this week and hope it doesnt miss to many trips this summer!

Thanks for all the feedback all, much appreciated!

I have successfully steeled a little edge deformation back in line with a hard chromed large round screwdriver.

It was no where near as big as that , however (chopped a small pebble in half by accident, it was embedded in the bottom of the log I was chopping)
