Great photo, and glad to see that khuk got used. The two KA-BARs are on my short list.
 
The grass machete & the Kukri ROCK !!! Kukri can chop like an axe. The machete bites deeper than you think it possibly could. Get you some !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
 
I have had that kukri for over 10 years. Its only had a few trips but it is a sweet bit of kit..

They are all awesome in their own way :)
 
I used my Grass Machete today to take out some shrubs.
 
The 1311 looks somewhat front heavy,does it chop better than the grass machete?

I can't comment on performance yet.. but heres some other pics for your information..

Thank you for the detailed post,from personal experience any blade thats front heavy chops better,traditional khukuris are very front heavy so when you swing theres additional momentum (as far as I understand) and each bite is substantial.I love how the grass machete looks but I just cant buy it since its not exposed tang and made in Taiwan,that Bark River however seems to be a good blade,have you chopped with it?

I wouldn't worry about the lack of an exposed tang--the stick tang is pretty substantial on those, if I'm not mistaken.

One think I will say about that bark river is the handle looks great but is scary.

That's a sharp sharp blade and no good ridge to stop your hand from slipping forward. Its light fast and wickedly sharp.

I would get the upswept golok before I got the bark river again as the handle looks to be a bit safer.

This might sound funny but the next one I want to add to these is the Mora machete. I really like the look and price of it.

The bark river is a reprofiled ontario blade so they would be a good option as well..
 
The Mora is a fun piece of work, though totally in a different weight class. It's like a sharpened feather and just floats in the hand, but it bites a lot deeper than you'd expect for its size and weight! More of a "road bike" build rather than the usual "mountain bike" so to speak, so bear that in mind, but I've taken a very strong liking to mine and use it a lot. It's a machete that's easy to keep close on account of it being so slim and light.

42blades, so you like the mora more then the svord ? How about the Ontario 14" butcher?
 
The Svord is an excellent piece of work if looking for a slightly more nose-heavy design. The handle is extremely comfortable and the overall tool is only slightly heavier than the Mora--however my preference is for the Mora as it's a very unusual piece. It feels like a normal-sized Mora in the hand, making it considerably easier to use for knife-like work in addition to as a chopper and brush cutter. It's very difficult to describe the unique feeling it has. The Svord will hit harder and can still be used for knife tasks without much trouble, but the Mora feels small and hits big which I find very appealing. The Ontario 14" Butcher is a fun piece of work that could be considered as something of a skinny bolo. It's very nimble for a piece of a bolo-like profile but has good mass and a finer point that you can't usually don't find on bolo-type machetes. Sort of a hybrid of a bolo and a Latin/bush pattern if that makes sense.
 
The kabar has a minor deficiency. It won't affect the actual use but it bugged the hell out of me..

Both mine have handle wiggle out of the box. My kabar kukri is 10 years old and has no wiggle...

I decided to deal with this as I had seen another thread on removing the handle. I drilled the hollow pin out on less than 5 minutes with no major ill effect to the handle.

The main thing that caused damage to the handle was using pliers to try to lever it out.

Nothing major and I used electrical tape and it now solid. I noticed it was a soft epoxy? in the handle and when I get some good hard expoxy I will re glue the handle.

This could be resolved by the factory using a better epoxy and maybe a bit more than they are using. I know there are people out there like me that will enjoy seeing the tang so I got a pic.. I am considering using a bamboo meguki that is removable so I can repair it later.

Long term fixes are a kick ass epoxy or a wood/mircata handle. Enjoy..

edit - I was just playing with it and its a different beast now. Solid. I am now very happy with it..

Thanks for the reply, I have soft spot for the svord, that Kabar would be great with a little full tang. IMO a knife this size should have a full tang.
 
sweetness...for me i'll take the bark river's blade with the sykco's downward handle though.
