You'll be better off with AK, Recon 1, Espada medium, talwar or even lawman with respect to the grip and having a finger 'guard' for preventing the hand to slide forward. Each of these except lawman is marginally larger than the Swift.
It depends on how you intend to defend yourself with it though. You'll probably get an infinite amount of different opinions on this topic.

You're talking about using a sharpened metal stick as a weapon. It can work. If you want to compare the merits of various little metal sticks, there probably won't be much of substance to talk about, but that hasn't stopped anyone on the Internet before. Certainly, empirical reasoning suggests that larger metal sticks are better weapons than smaller ones.

The Swift is a handsome looking knife. I don't see anything about the design that makes it an especially good weapon. I suppose it's as good as another similar sized knife, but mostly it's an oversized pocket knife intended to look good but accomplish the same tasks as a Case Peanut.

only thing the swift really has going for it is the assisted opening, while not bad, the addition of the thumb plates on many of the other designs render this addition obsolete IMHO as you would have to draw the knife then open it....albeit it opens very quickly, but its still 2 actions in a high stress situation.... the thumb plate makes the knife open on the draw, thus removing one of the steps needed before deployment as a self defense tool...

Personally, I'd look for something as a self defense knife intimidating enough to win the fight before the first cut was made.... the instant open and size advantage afforded by either the Espada Large or Talwar XL make them my favorites for EDC knife defense, with the 5.5 inch Talwar XL full serrated being by prime choice due to aggressive size and profile.....it should be a game ender before the game begins if you follow me.....with 5.5 inch being max legal carry length in my state, IMHO it's the almost perfect EDC SD knife....

YMMV.... and check your local blade length laws...the entire post becomes moot if you are stuck using a 3.5 inch blade legally.

I am no knife fighting guru by any means. However, I do know that the point is king. The Swift should be a good piercer. I would still prefer the clip point Recon 1 or Voyager and the 4 inch blade at a minimum.

thanx for replies......I have Ti Lite 4-6 for those purposes already,...........will buy something more useful than swift for now:)!

The Swift, to me, is a cool EDC blade. If you want a knife for SD I'd instead recommend the Talwar, large Espada, Spartan or Rajah II.

I can recommend them because I own them. They're awesome.

Knife for self defense? How old are you OP? Buy gun or Baton ASP and use them instead, I hope you'll never have chance to use them anyway.

Using knife is most desperate move and last resort. Especially when you buy "tactical" knife and you think that solve all problems without training your body and mind.

Cold Steel knives with wave disc openers are the best in that matter but after some modification. Sticky pocket clip and very grippy G-10 - it stop/slow down pull out knife from pocket with mention to use wave to open knife, if you wear jeans. I had such problem with Talwar.
