I've got my eye on a CSC Single Blade Half Moon Trapper but I'm not familiar with 14-4-CoMo steel.
Google learned me that it's low carbon and popular with makers of high end pots and pans, but what I want to know is "how's it take and hold an edge", compared to say,,, D2,,, or plain ol carbon steel.

As usual,,,, TIA.

putting them all side by side...

i cant really comment on ease of sharpening due to me using a paper wheel setup that makes sharpening virtually anything a snap. i would assume sharpening the D2 would take longer by hand than the 14-4 or 1095.

that said, the D2 in the Cannitler glides through phone book paper easier than the other two and held an edge while hacking up cardboard in the shipping dept at work for a day (not my normal dept) and was still sharp when i got home.

the other two (14-4 and 1095) havent seen as much action but so far they seem to get equally as sharp as each other and the 14-4 holds its edge longer than the 1095.

im digging the 14-4 but im torn between a Pinch in D2 or the Half Moon Trapper in 14-4 for my next purchase.

My CSC Half Moon Trapper came nice and sharp and I have used it without having to touch it yet. Great knife!

I've been seriously itching for a half moon trapper or a pinch lockback for some time now, but my brain has been getting in the way of my heart!

Thanks for the link guys.
Someone needs to tell Google about it.

ZippoFan,,, which one do you have.
I'm looking at the Cocobolo scales.
I have a penchant for wood handles. :>)

I couldn't resist the red stag version, she's a beauty!

I'd better not check out their site again, last time I did I ended up with the Kudu horn Moon Pie Trapper :D

And is that a Northwoods Indian River Jack in your pic? They're sweet looking knives...

Yes,,, Indian River Jack.
It's my favorite pocket knife ever (hope my old Schrades don't hear that) but I don't have any where near the number of pocket knives most on here have.

PS,,, the B&T's also a NorthWoods (with a sweet Carbon Blade).
NW is a real sleeper in the knife world IMO.
I never go to the woods without that pair.

I have a couple of 1/2 Moon trappers in 14-4
One I use regularly

A very good steel

Better than Carbon
Sharpens easily and comes to a silly sharp edge like Carbon
But stays sharp much longer
And is stainless so it has no maintenence

D2?
Much easier to sharpen and comes to a sharper edge
But does not have the forever holding power of a working edge of D2

Thanks Neeman
That's exactly the kind of first hand experience I was looking for, although I didn't expect it to come from the Middle East. :>)
I'll probably order the Half Moon on Monday.
Thanks again to all.
