Tried to get these on last night with no luck attaching to another thread. Trying in a separate thread today.

Anyway, this is the Bura 14" 17 oz. BDC that arrived yesterday.

Later,

Norm

Nice! Norm, it looks like it has a pretty beefy handle for its size. How would you say the handle size compares to something like a 15" AK?

Hi Guys
Nice knife. Its odd that it has a wooden handle though, a note attached to my BDC said they all came with horn grips. Not a complaint, the horn is stunning, just commenting.
Regards
Phil

Svashtar - Did you order this on your own or was it one from the group that came in for all of us?

Tom - I've always used BNM (Bura New Model) for them, but according to Dan, BDC (Baby Dui Chirra) is what they have come to be called.

I just got my 14" horn handled BDC yesterday. It is a beauty also! I spent some time at the buffers today polishing the blade, bolsters and handle to a high gloss. I also had to radius the end of the handle where the steel protruded beyond the corners of the horn. Now it feels smooth and painless to snap cut with. No more digging in the rear of the hand. This horn has some great looking white streaking in it. My BDC weighs in at 18oz and 14" even. It feels really lively in the hand. I think I may have found a new love. As much as I like our 10" BDC's, the 14" seems even better balanced as a great tool. It has that extra little bit of handle and blade to make it seem like a great little cutter. It also took a great keen edge. Slicer written all over it! I will let everyone know how it does when I test it out, if it ever stops raining here. Here are a few shots of it.

Josh, to me it feels closest to maybe an M-43, but without the buttcap of course. The handle is about the same size as a 15" AK, but has more of a curve to it and is naturally smoother without the ring. Makes for a nice smooth strong feeling handle. I like the 10", but feel that for someone with larger hands this is a much better balanced khuk.

Regards,

Norm

Nasty, on the first batch I missed out on the 14". I hadn't prepaid, so was only able to get one of the standard kerambits and 10" horn BDC's by emailing Yangdu in the bare nick of time and sending payment. I would have missed out completely, but was lucky enough to be online that night.

I immediately sent $ to cover a 14" that day, and asked Yangdu to put me in line for the next order. I gather she put together a second order immediately following the pandemonium that went with distributing the first batch, and several of those came in the other day, and mine arrived here yesterday. When I prepaid I asked her to request wood, but was not counting on it. I would have been happy with horn as well, and especially like the looks of ArchAngels polished horn BDC. I only asked for wood because the 10" was horn.

FYI, I have just been calling these the "baby dui chirra's."

Regards,

Norm

I ordered one today, I hope it comes in.
Those 14" are so nice.
That would be a good kothimoda blade.
A tastefully done throat and chape in silver with a 14" BDC.
I could go for that.

Beautiful knife! Does one have to special order it? If so, would I have to call and talk to somebody one-on-one?

Also, is the blade 14" or the whole knife 14"?

Is the weight of the knife more towards the tip? How would you describe the balance? It looks like a great, portable khuk. Beautiful fullers!

1- Don't know

2- The whole knife

3- All khuks weight is toward the tip. IMO.;)

4- Wonderful!!!!:D

5- It Is and They Are!!!!:D

6- This could easily become my favorite small khuk and even though it cost me a Fishy Rose for Nasty I still think it's worth it.:D :D :D :D Besides Nasty is worth it as well. :D

And welcome to the Psycho Ward or Cantina as you prefer.;)

Yvsa,
I know how you feel about the 14" BDC becoming a favorite small khuk.
I spent an hour or so polishing and buffing mine yesterday, then sharpened it up nice last night. Today I buffed the edge to a nice smooth finish and fondled it LOTS!
The more time I spend handling it, the more I like it! :)
I like the largish handle with a sort of western shape and that nice flowing curve of the handle. Add to that a wonderful blade shape and size that balances very nicely in the hand, plus the double fullers and you have a khuk that feels like a real winner. It feels like a blend of east and west with the looks and feel of the handle, combined with a great khukuri blade shape.
Damb, I am starting to drool while talking about it.
I bet that this could be a great seller , if it were added to the regular lineup.

It was well on it's way to being *my* favorite my friend! Had I known you were going to fall for it and that you wanted the same sort of pointy part of the grip removed like I do, I'd have had it done before I let you see it. I can honestly tell you that nothing but a Rose would have moved me off of it! Even though I originally ordered wood, when I re-order (you know I have to), I'll get horn again.

BTW, the Rose seems very happy back here in Ohio...took her to the buffer and then the belts. OMG, she got sharp! I don't know if the false edge was supposed to stay false, but it no longer is! :-) Slice-n-Dice both directions. I also trimmed off that litle bit you had marked...gave it a nice smooth radius at the same time for the finger forward grip...*sweet*!
