I love my little 10" New Model, but I was really curious to hear from folks that ordered the 14" version. Seems to me like it would be a sweet little khuk. Don't really need a khuk in that size range, my 12 (13) inch AK villager can cover all bets, just wondering out loud.

The 14" new model and 12" AK are completely different animals, IMHO. I really like mine(14" BDC;)). I have one of each (10" & 14"). The handle is quite comfortable. I haven't fully tested it against a BAS or similar, but it wins on looks alone for me. I have a 15" Sirupati I can test it against. I'll get back to you on that one.

The whole family has been crazy about the 10" khukuris. When I got the first 14", wife used it & said she preferred the 10" for most stuff. Sam ordered him a 14" after using mine. Like the man said, they are basically two different animals, but both of them feel good in the hand. I was afraid the handle on the 10" would be uncomfortable, but it feels really good. The 14" is a great knife to take anywhere, when you think that you really don't need a khukuri. I am impressed with both, but carry the 14" a lot. It won't do what the AK's do, & doesn't have quite the reach of the longer sirupatis, but it actually does more work than its' size would make you think & its' size & weight make it one of those knives I find myself picking up everytime I go out the door.
 
Dadgummit, me and my big mouth, I just had to ask. Thanks Dan and DKP, you guys confirmed what I suspected. I suspected I want one of the ding dang things, now I know for sure. Uncle, you got any of them 14" New Model critters cohabitating with the dust bunnies?:( :D

Razzin Frazzin Duck, don't make me sling on my Tarwar and make me some duck pate'. My little AK Villager would go in my "bail out bag", but there's something about a Dui Chirra blade that's hypnotizing. My 10" New Model is sweet indeed, but I can't help thinking I'd take it walking in the woods more if it were a little bigger.

I handled Sarge's 10" at the Austin convention... man that knife is cool.:cool:

It is that Dave. If I can get past my disdain of Dremel tools I'm going to trick out the handle slabs with some sterling silver pins set in a nice pattern. It's my purty knife, I keep it's blade shining like a new dime. My villager, on the other hand, is patinated a fairly even dark bluish gray, blade and handle fittings. Durn thing looks a couple hundred years old.:cool:

(Gawd, I hate this. Don't wanna agree with Tsimi on ANYTHING! :grumpy: ) bUT A 10" K ain't no K! When was last time a kami went running through Nepal outback with a 10" K? He'd be LAUghed out OF the kami union! :D But a 14" is getting closer to the perfection of a 16.5" chiruwa. :D (not a pe-uuny rat tail K :barf: ) THat maybe sorta is OK. :D

Now my Bilton is another matter and ONly exception to above rule. I like it. :o :D
