A candidate for the Spa. "14 inches OA. $35 auction find (shipped from Portland & I'm 20 miles South). It looks pretty good to my eyes. I see minor small pits or impurities in both faces of the blade. No edge chipping. Point appears to be intact. Micarta has no injuries or flaws. Blade was ground/sharpened but not overly ground away & is dull now. Only one or two tiny edge gimps.

It should respond well to spa work. I would have liked to have walked this into the Buck Spa myself but just received it this AM.

I am pretty tickled with this knife @ that price. I marvel at how lite it is and at how comfortable/anatomical the Buckcarta handle is.

FTR = ?
14C = Radiocarbon

Nice score oregon! Some day I hope to snag one of those for carving holiday roasts:thumbup:

Congrats. Please let us know how it comes back from the spa. I've been thinking about sending in my Empress Trio for some TLC.

Yes, that is the Carver from the Empress Trio Set, model 200 from the 70's. A good find. I use mine often and find it very useful. Here's the set with maroon micarta handles from 73. DM

I got lucky. Yes I did. However, I need the other two members of the trio...

Badhammer & Desert Dave you guys really know how to live, in style. I don't know for sure but I bet you have to cook better when you use better carving tools. I will have to work on my culinary skills to keep up with the cutlery.

Oregon, that's a nice one... I don't see the dark ones very much... Great pictures of it for sure...
If I see any I'll send you a link... :)

You'll have to explain yourself as Oregon's carver has whitish micarta. So, which one are you referencing? DM

David I think that my first two photos were taken in the shade while my others were taken in direct sunlight. My software can't swallow that amount of brightness so while the first two photos make the handle look black my following pics look make it look white. Sorry to mislead visually. Right this minute it looks black, on the counter in the kitchen, where it awaits transport back to TLC Idaho. :)

Oregon,
Excellent find.
I just recently has a customer bring in the full set of three of these Buck beauties. His story was that he purchased them at a garage sale for 30.00 for the set that morning. I gave them them a full cleaning and sharpen to a 15 micron edge. Then buffed up the maroon handles. He was very pleased!

From the looks of the pictures you will get many years of service from that fine blade after some TLC.

Laurence
