Sure everybody is getting sick of this style from me. I wish I could tell you I'm sick of making them, but I'm not. At all. I'm digging the heck out of them, in fact. This one has been in process for a while, but it's finally finished, and I've got a Hartsfield-style scabbard in process. Once the leather for it comes in, it's up for sale.

I HATE having to sell this one, as it's so much fun. Feels awesome! Makes ya want to run around with no pants on, screaming obscenities.

...well, maybe that's just me.

Heck, I don't even need this friggin' knife to make me feel like that.;)

Anyway, this is my darling Crucible CPM-4v, at .275" thick, and I left the mill scale on the flats because I think it's a great contrast. Blade is 14" long, with a lenticular or 'appleseed' grind, and a shishi dog menuki. TONS of sori!

Might have to do a video, as once again my photos don't do the piece justice.

Thanks for looking, gang!

Gorgeous!!! 👏🏼👏🏼

ETA: Got a really nice Carothers Field Knife in 3V to trade for it!! ;)

Wow, I really didn't expect this kind of response! Well, except for Lorien's, of course. :D

I'm pretty sure it's apropos to have a thread in this section turn into a sale thread, so if you're interested, please send me an email at, that way we can keep this thread clean.

Thanks guys!!!

...you're right, though, Lorien. I'm pretty much that way all the time.:)

Don't listen to Lorien/ he is a cronic low baller. That blade is worth $200. I'll take it, and $200 is already Paypalled!

(not really paypalled, but I really love it!)

I like the curve but dislike the tip. It looks like a chisel.

Oh, BTW, whats wrong with running around yelling with no pants on? I'll have to admit that I did have to start wearing pants while grinding though.

Dig it, man. There are several of us on a tanto-building kick right now, and I'm loving what I'm seeing from everyone. :)

I can see what you're saying... Perhaps the chisel point isn't right on this piece? Too disruptive to the overall flow, or just not complementary to this, overall. Not too late to change that. What does everyone think?

Thanks for your comment, btw, Spyken!

Darrin, we say this every time, don't we? The wear resistance of this stuff is off the hook. I remember complaining about hand finishing CPM3v. That's at least possible!!! Post heat treat, sandpaper doesn't do anything to this stuff except remove the oxide layer. Crazy!!!! I love a beautiful hand finish, but this stuff just won't allow for it. Really do love the way it performs though!

I only wear pants when company is coming over, or when using 36 grit belts. :D

Make many more then move on to the katana.
You, Matthew, are on fire.
Phill is smiling.

You did a helluva job on that my friend....[emoji106][emoji41][emoji383]

WOW. Just....wow. I tend to agree with Spyken about the kissaki and that area forward of the yokote. Maybe a more fluid curve there? You pull these Japanese pieces of so well, bud. When I grow up I want to make knives like Matthew Gregory. Just gotta grow up first.
