Isn't this statement (from the home page) just a wee bit exaggerated? My math shows that every one of those 14000 members would have to make 71.42 hits a day! Figuring that at least 50% of the members never show up, the balance would have to make at least 150 hits a day! Fantastic!

Hits are probably any page request, not enitre logged-in sessions. Also factor in all of the guests (81 listed at the moment on just this forum). The search engines that index this site will generate a huge number of hits.

If you check, there are really 52,048 members of this forum. (And, as Cougar says, "More by the time you read this. :D)

HERE are the numbers from big-boards.com. Bladeforums is currently rated the 329the most active forum site on the internet. That's not bad when you consider how obscure the topic is.

Now think about this: bladeforums.com has no advertising! Last time I took the time to check it out, something like 48 of the top fifty forum sites were peppered with ads. Spark could make a nice bit of money selling ad space on this site, but he chooses not to.

I'm glad for that too. It's nice to go to a place and talk about something your passionate about and not be bombarded by useless adds.

:thumbup:Thirded.No,wait.Fourthed,on the NO ADS.I sure appreciate this place. Most of all the people. Not to mention,IMO,the ability to look at :) and possibly acquire some of the finest knives IN THE WORLD!
Gollnick,if you're around.Do you know the startup date for BladeForums?
Sorry if OT,I think it might be.

Doug :)

The 329th most active forum of those they list - they don't have all the big forums in their database. For example, there's a Japanese board out there that is about twice as large as the one they consider the biggest.

Well over 50,000 members isn't too shabby though!

It's a great question.

I don't know. But it actually goes way back. I don't know the whole story, but my understanding is that it goes back to usenet news. Someone else will have to fill in more.

yes thank GOD! there are no ads on here.

It's is good and right to thank God for all good things. But, in this case, it would also be appropriate to thank Spark too.

The start up date was 10/02/1998.

As far as I am concerned this place is a gift to the knife community from Spark.

This place is becoming my home away from home, even when I'm at home home if that makes sense... Thanks for the gift Spark.

If it wasnt for bladeforums i wouldnt know 90% of what i know now about knives. I love this site! It really is a gift to the knife community like Bastid said
Thanks Spark!

Thanks Gus,
for everything!
Thank you Spark,
for giving me a soft place to land. :)

Doug

Yes, I thank you, Spark, and I will be up-grading my membership to help keep it that way. I never thought about it that way and am glad you mentioned it Gollnick. Preston

Thats probable channel2 but considering its a forum with about a hundred gazillion topics/interets from Hello Kitty to the Ultra right wingers and everything inbetween, it is basically text only and is supported by porn, its no surprise :D

This forum is a great place and wish I had found out about it earlier in my knife fanatic days. Or maybe i'm better off as I usually had a full wallet before BF  .
