Hope I'm not wearing out my welcome. I'm seeking information on another knife. This probably won't be my last.

This 141 looks like a 49er but it isn't stamped as such. Is it a 49er or something else?

Again thank you,

I have one of those also. The same blade shape was used on both the 141S and the 491S. Now, who could say with any certainty whether it was the last of the 141 blades being used with new furniture while awaiting the new tang stamp, or an old stock of blades being used to build knives from leftover 49er furniture. The Walden stamped blades predate the release (official) of the 49ers in 1973. Interesting knife!

Micheal,

Again, thank you. What would you call it for an inventory listing? 141-S?

Thought it might be an odd one. This kind of stuff makes Schrade-Walden's so interesting. You never know what pops up.

Transistion knife, doesnt have the Benchmade cutlers marks on the gold butt like all the 49er series either.

Some of the 141's do come with butt stamps. I have a couple of 141's and one has no stamping on the butt end but the leather handled on has an anvil on the left side of the screw and what appears to be an inverted or ' backwards ' letter C. They are not very deeply stamped and the backwards C may be an incomplete O or circle that is open on the left side . They are both schrade-walden and are both in 49ers leather sheaths that are plainly stamped 49ers. Interestingly they both came with Old Timer old brown boxes that are sworn to me by the sellers that they were original. The leather handled one also has a 49ers etched blade with 491 in the etching but the tang is schrde-walden over N.Y.U.S.A. over 141. The etching is not very dark but up close you can plainly see 49ers with 491.

Well, there you go then. Transition knives fits them quite well. Leftover 141 blades were used on some of the earliest 497s. Or... they were used at some point when sufficient 497 marked blades were not on hand to complete an order. Or... :) Did you know that this pattern was sold by Belknap Hardware?
