hello everyone... I recently purchased a NIB 144uh or so I thought. When it came in the blade did not have a uniform finish. The bottom of the blade where it was sharpened had a hazy glow "which I have seen before" but the same hazy glow was on the top of the knife. The center of the knife had a different finish and the tang had a different finish. So I guess there were 3 different finishes on it. The seller has great feedback and only deals in knives. I asked him if the knife had been buffed on or what was up.. He said since the knife has so many slopes in it that it is hand honed. And that all of them do not have uniform finishes... Is this true? if so I will keep the knife other wise he has a return policy so I will do so... Help.....Please.....
thanks

Jerod, I have seen the same sort of thing, mainly on Stainless Steel Schrade knife blades, I have a few 897UH models and they have by what you have described as hazy glow. Please post pictures when the knife arrives.

the knife came in a plain white box stamped 144uh and a white sleeve around it. when i asked him about the box he said it was a final production run knife and boxes were not made for it yet. I thought the 144uh was made from 79-82. was it made later on. i will post pictures tonight when i get home

During the final months, weeks, days at the Factory, it's well known that anything and everything was put together to try and clear inventory, if there were blades and bodies of any kind around they would try their best to complete as much as possible, so the knife could of been completed just before the factory closed from blades and handles that may of been around from the 80's completed and packed up. Either these knives were packed onto trucks and bought by Smoky Mountain Knife Works or made it out of the factory before the closing.
