hope this is the right forum, I got a ZT 0350 a few days ago and when i was in shop i saw a ZT 170 fix blade in 14C28N i really like this blades feel and weight but i have never heard of this steel and no nothing about it, i have to pick between the ZT and a Bear ops constant in 154 CM, what would you guys suggest?

what im after is a fix blade under $160
4+ inch blade
non- reflective blade
so if you have any other suggestions
would be more a carry often used seldom type blade

I have it on a Kershaw OD-1 folder, I like it a lot. It held the factory edge for a long time and resharpened in seconds on the dc4 stone, no corrosion problems to date though Ive read that depending on the finish it can get spotty.

What are the hardness levels between each?

Sandvick 14C28N is a very pure, fine grain stainless steel. It doesn't have the carbide formers and other alloying elements that 154cm does, but it is very good quality basic steel. It holds its edge comparably to other common stainless steels given a good heat treat. As far as I remember it was designed specifically for KAI to be a replacement for 13C26, but with Nitrogen.

14C28N(Sandvik) - Sandvik steel. As of now, exclusive to Kershaw/Kai cutlery. Composition was published in 01/2011, apprently not quite correct, it listed different N content and also listed 0.55% Mo, which is gone from official Sandvik website. Addition of the nitrogen should improve corrosion resistance and hardness. Sandvik's recommended working hardness 55-62HRC.

154cm on the other hand has a higher carbon content and 4% molybdenum. So that means it's going to be tougher ( harder to snap ) and have better wear resistance at the same level of hardness. On the other hand since it's high carbon it will have more issues with corrosion.

Personally, I think if you like the knife, 14C28N is quality steel and you should just get that specific knife because you like it, rather than get the other one because it's 154cm.

a good point, i like both of the knives the only thing that i was unsure about it the blade steel, im kinda hesitant to pull the trigger on some thing i dont know every thing about, i have never dealt with with Bear ops before but the knife i handled was very impressive and ZT has great product reputation so the only real factor for me was the steel, if 14C28N has better corrosion resistance that that is a great plus, thank you for your incite, very helpful thank you :)
