I post pics of my knives not to say "look what I have" or "look what I've done". But I love seeing pictures of other peoples khukuris, so I suspect that some of you do too. This one was pre-owned by someone else, and never used. So it is a couple of years old, and has the old-type tooled scabbard. Flawless execution by Bura and the Sarki. The Karda and Chakma have the most beautiful rosewood handles. I would love to have a khukuri with this dark rosewood. The satisaal handle of the siru has wonderful grain. This is the first time I've used Minwax Tung oil on a handle. It works much like Tru-Oil. It's a little thinner, and penetrates well. Takes more coats to build up though. I suspect about 15-20 on this one.

Sarge says that his 15" Bura is magic. I don't doubt it.

Beautiful!
I've only recently began using Tru-oil. Previously I used Formby's high gloss tung oil. The tru- oil is better IMO.
After seeing your pix, I'll try the min-wax too.

I enjoy your pictures so keep it up Ferg. This not only makes me want a 15in Siru even more than I already did but it makes me want a wood handled khuk. I notice that you keep the brass polished nearly white like I do with my beautiful Chit.

I thought the same thing, I think it would be great if the fancy sheath was an option for an additional sum.

Ever thought about going into the khukuri handle finishing business?

I'll send you all my K's. :D

Like Uncle Bill said, 30 cents per hour and all the rice I can eat.:)

how do yall make the handles look like that?

would i have to sand and refinish them or is it just a matter of oiling//waxing them?

please advise...

Ripper, yeah, I got a little carried away with the karda.:)

Stef, take a look at this thread

or do a search for handle refinsh or woodchuck

The new plain sheaths are in my opinion of a higher quality than the old tooled leather ones. Plus if I recall correctly the old leather guy had to leave rather quickly, but my memory fails me.

Beautiful Steve, and puts me taht much closer to ripping the Horn off my AK's and putting wood on them. :)

Wo'nt do that though hate to ruin a good knife. Will probably sell these to seomeon eand finda blem from Uncel Bill that has cracked handesl. :) Man I love rosewood. Again, good job. :)

Dadgum that's pretty Steve, I'll trade you a Barlow knife, a plug of terbacky, a pound of coffee, and a couple of squirrel tails for it.;)

Sarge

p.s.: that one looks like it might also possess magical properties, better send it on to me for "testing".:p :D

Absolutely beautiful, Steve. It is obvious that you fall into that rare catagory of those who have a true reverence for wood. I am going to try your method out starting tonight.

Oh man, don't mess with the horn!;) I love horn too! When you find some that's got some white or honey colored streaks running through it, sand it with wet-or-dry sandpaper to 1000 grit and buff it with some Zam or red rouge, or scratchless pink buffing compound. The finish is sooooo deep that it looks like you could fall into it.

I'm not one for glossy finishes - prefer satin finish myself. But Steve - you've got the goods, and I'm always green with envy when I see the pics.
