I got home tonight and found a package from HI waiting for me ... good end to a long day. After opening up the package and unwrapping a well wrapped Chitlangi I took a look at it, I found some condensation on the blade, karda, and chakma, must be better weather in Reno than here.

The sheath - very solid and well stitched, the chapel is is tight to the sheath and does not grab fingers.

The Chitlangi - fits very well in the hand and came field sharp, well balanced with clean lines. The handle is horn and well finished. Looking forward to trying out out some brush clearing.

Customer service - A+, Thanks Yangdu for a pleasant, quick transaction on my first HI kurk =). **bows respectfully**

I'm not sure that's condensation. The last several blades I've seen from H.I.--starting maybe around the end of last year?--had some kind of new liquid drops on them that seemed to leave some kind of residue. Not sure what it was. Didn't bother me, but now that you mention it, I'm curious. Is there a change in what they put on the blades now to prevent rust?

Again, I have no problem with this, but I'm curious. Anyone else know what I mean?

Haven't gotten a recent shipment, but sometimes there's enough oil on the blades to bead up a bit.

Also, HI product reviews can go in the HI forum, unless I missed a recent change in protocol.

The "condensation" is whatever oil has been put on the blade to keep it from rusting. I"m not sure what it is but the first time I get a blade I spray it with some 409 or something and just wipe it off with a paper towel.

Great initial impressions:) I'm gonna scoot this on over to the main forum since it's directly HI related:)

Thank you for being a happy customer and friend to HI.

I scored one of those little chitlangis by Santosh too.

The one thing I can note is how easily it took a very, very scary sharp edge.

It would be a good substitute shaving razor after the goverment collapses.

My new M-43 is also a Santosh blade and it also easily took a razor edge. On mine the condensation turned out to be oil some kind of a very clear shipping oil. Washed right off with dishsoap.

If my piece is any indication I would say he will be a good addition to the crew. Very nice work on the workhorse I purchased.

I received an 18 inch 25 ounce Pachthar Chitlangi by Santosh (5/29 DOTD) today in mail. It is really a nice piece of work, well balanced, very large handle and quite sharp as received. I'm very impressed. I'm not sure how you'd carry this concealed, but it could certainly clear you way out of a tight spot, no doubt. The small knife was dull as butter however, but I'm not planning on using it anyway.
