Gotta go clear some shooting lanes in thick brush today, will try to take some pics and will give review when I get home today if I'm not to exhausted!

Thought some of you guys might like to hear yet another pen review. :-)

Have a great day,

Billy

I've got the same blade and am really interested in your take on it. Looking forward to your next post.

Guys I am exhausted and one hurting unit. We did a LOT OF WORK in some thick thorn bushes etc. The pen cut like a laser as long as I took a decent swing with it. Most stuff got sliced clean with just a light stroke. It was amazing and everyone watching it was amazed. Two guys were using "The Woodsman's Pals" and they would be hacking and hacking away at a limb. I would go over and ask if I could give it a shot and slice, down it went.

Only Problem I had was with mine the ring was a bit too far back, good for a smaller handed guy. I had to choke up on it a bit so my pinky finger was against it to cut comfortably. Was not a problem as long as I remembered to hold it that way. lol

What a wonderful blade. Then I presented a 15" horn handled AK to a buddy of mine that has done a lot of graphic arts work for me and the Marine I am raising funds for, for free. He said he has wanted a Khuk his whole life and was blown away by the gift. I have pics ,will post them if my body allows. Its starting to really stiffen up! Time for a hot shower and the massage chair. Odds are I'll fall asleep so look for the pics tomorrow.

In closing, if your thinking about a nice easy to handle khuk to do just about anything you ask it too you can't go wrong with a pen. Oh yeah and I hit a few rocks with on full swings, minor burrs and I also held it at a 90 degree angle and hammered in some wood stakes with it. lol I love this thing. Of course now it is well stained but I hit it with some ballistol and I'll work on cleaning it better tomorrow.

That's it for me! Will write more tomorrow.

THAT IS AWESOME! I love hearing stuff like that! Thanks!

Sounds like the 15" PKs are shaping up to be a pretty good khuk in their own right.

Daniel K., do you have one of these yet? I'd be interested to hear your impressions on the longer PKs as related to the original PK design and functions.

I'll try the 12" version next time Bob and there will be a next time because we have a lot of work to do. This time it will be on more limbs instead or the horrible thorn bushes and brush we went through yesterday. Uploading pics now. Wish I had good "before" pictures. If you look to the let of them you can see the pile of cut brush. Good habitat for the birds and bunnies.

Ok the soreness is worse and I am really tired. lol Here are a few pics for you guys to enjoy. You just cannot appreciate how bad this area was till we tore through it. Thorn branches 3/4 thick. I pulled thorns out of me that looked like velociraptor teeth! lol

The beauty of HI blades, hand forged, money going to people that really need it. Wonderfully affordable, amazing warrantee, not so expensive that you don't use it for what it is, a tool. I have Randall's, Striders, Nihonto a few customs and guess what? The only thing they've cut is air and are basically investments and art. I can buy 5-6 HI blades that I will use without fear for the cost of a Randall or other top named blade. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and it took a lot for me to not walk into the restaurant with my pen knife still hanging from my belt. I enjoy a hand made item without it being perfect. Makes things real to me. If you have ever crafted anything by hand you know how hard it is to achieve perfection. Always strived for, never achieved.

I will take some close ups of the blade that got burred when I was cutting way to close to the ground and I knew if there was a rock I would it but I didn't worry and wanted to see what would happen. Wouldn't do that with anything else! Heck my KABAR chipped big time after lightly hitting a rock.

Very happy customer and there were 10 other guys that were equally impressed and took a few swings with it. Only wish the ring was further up the handle to fit me well. Had I been wearing gloves as I should have been I probably wouldn't have been an issue.

Thinking about getting a big Pen, DO IT you will not regret it! This pen is truly mightier than the sword!

Thank you Kami Bura and Yangdu!

You can see the bit of the pile all the way to the left and you can see where the road was and get an idea of how far back we had to go. Man it was ugly but its amazing what can be done with a few motivated good people but only one with a good khuk! lol

Thanks Yangdu!

I am thinking of offering one as a prize for our big air rifle competition later on this year. Our game requires cutting lanes in the woods and the Pen knife has proven itself a winner. I'm sure many others can do but in my hands this pen was perfect. I was able to control it easy and it did whatever I asked it too. I will add a link to the HI website on our donors page as a prize. Now I have to pick out one of my precious babies to give up. Oh the hard part.....

If you scroll down to the bottom of the page you can see all the donors we have so far. http://www.wlopa.com/USFT.htm

I have a 15" BGRS wearing hill walnut. The ring just didn't fit my hand. I sanded it off and redid the handle a little. Now its my most comfortable. You should keep that option open at the least. Anyone can do that project.;)

Great review and pics. I have 2 12" pen knives, one a villager model. Both are awesome. I used my villager today to chop some large sticks apart that my 9 month old Labrador pup would carry to my door after a walk. It was starting to look like he wanted to build a cabin outside my front door. He loves to carry sticks that he finds on walks, but they kept getting bigger and bigger as he got bigger (currently 85 pounds). Finally, today, I took the Pen knife to some of them and bagged them up for kindling. Some of them were literally about 10' long and about 3-4" in diameter, basically logs. Worked like a charm. These Pen knives rock!! Extremely useful design, easy to carry and hold a great edge. Thanks again for the review.

After seeing the third pic I'll take your word on the thorns. Don't like them either.

Not only can you, but you do :) How many are you up to now anyhow?

Thanks for the review. My 15" Pen is my favorite.

The Pen knife by Dan Koster has been a well liked blade since its introduction. I think of it as related to the Ganga Ram family, though a cousin.
