This was Auntie's very, very generous trade for my box-o-antlers: a 15" horn sirupati by Vim kami.(assuming the flag facing the other direction is whim on his part, and not another kami):image.jpgimage.jpgimage.jpg
All I've done is to take a couple of bright spots out of the edge with the 320 belt and re-buff, keepin the original geometry. First siru I've owned that I didn't make.
Small dog pic not intentional but too funny not to post-he weighs less than my M4.

Great picture and lovely dog, thank you for sharing

Nice blade JW! Congrats! I have an 11.5" i wish dearly it was legal to join my EDC pile. It is light enough and would be a great utility knife. I see you have a white terror too! Love em. Great dogs!

There is actually another kami that uses the Nepal flag mark. I think it's Anil. My R-10 is marked with the flag and it was not made by Vim.

Really nice knife either way. What's the weight like? Looks light & fast.

He's a wee offwhite terror...
I'm bloody close to edc'ing this now and again-
How's the Hanshee??
I havent been able to cut anything with it yet. Weather has been so crappy lately and with my doggies inside and all i think I better play outside with it. Im holding back on the pics till I get some webspace somewhere also. I have been fondling it and it sure does feel like it wants to slice something! Im saving up some cardboard tubes and boxes and such so soon as I can get half a chance Ill give a report. Sure is pretty tho!

Cool-I haven't been cutting in this weather either. I train indoors, but if the dogs are asleep I use my dao, and if they're awake I use the gelbu. They're pretty close to the floor, so it's safe...
Phil- it's about 18oz. After the gelbu (29oz) it's pretty quick.
Is the non-Vim flag facing the other way? Mine is.

Both my Vim and Anil blades have the flag facing the same way, and either has those little dots in the flag like yours does.

I think the hanshe is designed for cutting up people -- present company excluded, of course. Cardboard boxes should be ok, but I'd be cautious about using it to chop wood. For the sake of the blade and any people or pets who might be close by.

I've seen some postings speculating that the extreme curve was originally so that the hanshe could reach around or over shields, in the times when people carried shields. There have been some hanshe type blades with even more extreme curvature. In general, those are not very good for chopping, at least not without a lot of experience.

The one I made image.jpg is not good for chopping at all- i think the sweet spot is further back in the curve, so more vibration if you hit out on the belly, and more lever against the wood of the handle. For small(1-2" saplings) it shears well, but big stuff is pointless.
I suspect Ndogs will be better as this one is 12oz. or so, and the HI is both bigger and thicker.

Yep its definitely thicker. I havent played with it enough to positively find the sweet spot. Ive been pinging on it a bit to try but cant tell for sure. What you say about the handle is super important if you want to keep your handle intact. Hitting solid objects off the sweet spot concentrates an enormous amount of stress and can shatter handles. I can see now how important it is for the Kamis to harden the correct spot. Sword making is interesting for this reason.
