I want a solid, general purpose fixed blade that can be used for all bushcraft needs, some light whittling, hunting/fishing and general, everyday use both in and out of the woods. Pretty specific eh??

So yeah, why not? There's such an unbelievable quantity to choose from out there, why not set a price and find one that will do it all? So what do you think? What's the best, "do it all" fixed blade out there and why?

In my opinion, it's got to be something like a Fallkniven (F1? H1?) or a BRK&T. I think a convex or scandi grind has to be just about ideal for most of the purposes.

What's your pick?

Yep, very nice and probably the best solution! Unfortunately I am not in a position to purchase quite yet. I will be soon though!

Simple, Fallkniven F1. If you search the forum you'll find plenty of reasons why this would be the best choice. I do a lot of Multi-day, solo backpacking in the Sierra Nevada and this is the knife I carry (zytel sheath) along with a SAK. If you want a slightly larger blade, the S1 would be my choice. I own one of those as well, however I prefer the F1 for my backpack trips due to its size.

I'll assume you want carbon steel.
ESEE Lazer strike
BHK bushcrafter
ML Kephart
ESEE 4
and that's just a very few

If it was me, ML Kephart or ML Fisher or ML Kephart. Although there are a ton of great knives. I also like Blindhorse Knives (Bushbaby, Bushcrafter, Nessmuk).

My goal is to soon come up with $160 and get two knives from Woodsknife Finland.

If I fall short, I am after a Helle Viking.

I'd buy 2 Mora's and a good Kabar or Esee. Maybe even a Benchmade. I've seen some nice looking ones around.

Spyderco G10 Bushcraft would max out your budget, but it fits the bill nicely.

It features a Scandi grind 0-1 blade with very nice G10 handles.

What's your pick?

for US$150 you can own some of the finest steel ever honed to an edge and held by man.

at that budget, the choices are many and varied.

personally, i like Fallknivens and i can't fault either of the two i have (S1, WM1-3G).

if you want to spend the close to the full $150, the spyderco or the custom that was listed are great options. there are also good budget bushcraft knives (like models from condor).

the spyderco aqua salt should also make a good bushcraft knife.

Let me be the first to shout Becker BK2. For your budget, you could add something smaller (3" give or take is better for hunting but not as good for the other stuff you're going to want to do) like a BK11, BK14 or ESEE Izula.

Whittling? BK2 can do it!

Chopping? BK2 can do it (that's seasoned oak by the way)!

You could clean a deer with it, but really, something shorter - like a neck knife is more convenient - like this BK11.

Get both and have lots of cash left over.
