This link shows a new arceology find i old Uppsala i Sweden.
144 poles in a raw - 1500 years old.
Adam of Bremen wrote about this place in 1078. He wrote that every nine year there was a big sacryficed here to the paigan Gods, and 72 victims, animals and humans, was sacrifyced.
144 poles diveded with 2 makes 72 gallows... But the poles was built 400 AD and Adam wrote about 72 victims more then 600 years later.
We do not know if this 144 poles was for this purpous or not, but it is, perhaps, a possibility.
