My 151 Kaala, the S30V neck knife, arrived this AM. Nice, but, as others have said, nearly knife-sharp on those handle edges. A minute or two with one of my gunsmithing fine tuning abrasive tools, aka one of my wife's nail boards, and those edges were history - more better and even gooder.
Hmmm, I just happened to spend $1.59 last night at Wally World for some camo poly cord (cheesy para cord). That'll replace that light switch pull chain. It could also wrap that handle - great idea! Here it is, two layers worth - and comfy - and, no blood loss from the wrapping, just some tired fingers & wrists from pulling. Neat, huh? It's like a regular knife - great feel in the hand.
I did a fair job, if I do say so myself. One problem... see that 'bump' on the open end of the sheath? It goes through that first hole from the blade end in the skeleton handle to secure. That's the hole partially obscured with the wrap - and the start and stop end of the para cord through it, too. No, changing to the bitter end of the handle for that won't help - the windings were fitted tightly between those holes - that precludes their use for securing the knife within the sheath. Oh well. I rate it very dangerous if stowed with the handle wrapped like that. If worn hanging from the neck stowed like that, a cough, or gufaw, and you may find a painful way to get rid of that unwanted belly fat.
I'll await my bride's return from work today before I unwind it - in case she's had a bad day. If she has had a less than satisfactory day, I'll show her my stupidity - that will defuse the worst day. Else, I'll just quietly unwind it later. In any case, back to original it should go.
Oh - the knife is neat - a great idea for a carry knife in the boonies. I am not so sure about it's tacti-cool uses, however. Very sharp - slightly longer than my Spydie Native S30V (They were $40 from Wally-World - no longer available.) - and the same .121" thicness. The Buck 151 is now the cheapest S30V knife you can buy - and a value. Maybe I will use the para cord for a neck cord...
