154cm chipping easily??

154-CM is a fine knife steel and mine , a Camillus ,has never caused problems.Knife tips however are very easy to overheat when hardening and very easy to overheat when grinding in both cases making the tip brittle. I've had a few knives break off the tip , maybe 1/16 to 1/8". After careful regrinding they never chipped again.

Same here, and I use mine hard. I trust in 154CM. There are a lot of steels out there, which are better for some type of knives, but 154CM is a well balanced, very good and inexpensive all around steel for folders.

Must be that time of year.

I've read about two different knives of BM 154CM having some issues.

I only own 3 BMs with the steel and have sharpened others. No such issues noted.

I think it is a good steel, like it better than ATS-34 (probably heat treat makes the difference, but I consider them two different steels).

I have gotten some very minor edge chipping in general use, but nothing that didn't come right out with a little sharpmaker loving. (551 Griptillian)
