154CM destructive tests posted.....

Very cool pics, Eric. Of the previously released offerings from Wauseon, the D2 blades from the Swamp are probably the most similar. Just like with the D2 (Dog Skinner, Bog Dog, etc.,) the Wauseon heat treat appears to have done its job.

If only those crescent wrenches could talk... :)

Thanks for linking that, Eric. Those are some great pics.

I'm sorry to hear that orders got cancelled over all the hooplah. I know Vic would never have intended that. In fact, he pretty much described the reason the tip broke in some of his original postings, but he never blamed it on the knife.

The blade design and the steel choice both cast the HC into the role of a slicer. You'd think at first that people on a knife forum would recognize that, but just because many people know it doesn't mean everyone does. Hopefully some of the people that cancelled their orders will keep track of this and put it all in perspective. As much as I like SR-101, it's pretty cool to have another steel choice thrown in the mix now and again, so I hope this episode doesn't discourage that from the company's standpoint.

I picked up a Mudpuppy, an HCSE and an HCLE and with the pants from Okuden and Buy Brown I'll be able to keep one with me any time. Dan didn't have any thing to prove to me but I sure feel better about any chore I might have in mind for these blades. Now let's go cut something!

I always knew this steel had great potential!!! It is one of my favorite blade steels! ,,,VWB.

I regret that my little backyard review may have caused anyone to cancel an order for the HCLE. The much more extensive tests shown by Dan Busse on Scrap Yard Forums demonstrate the amazing toughness of the Busse version of 154CM steel. Had I driven the point of my HCLE further into the oak before prying, the tip would not have broken. The HCLE is a fine little knife and worthy of the Swamp Rat logo. Busse's 154CM holds a great edge and is tougher than any 154CM has a right to be. Go check out the test pictures.

Thanks for sharing that Eric. Very impressive.

No regrets about just ordering a HC (even before you shared the test). I intend to use it.

I have no use for extras, but now I wish I ordered 2 more 3.5's last night before they went away. As if I don't have ENUF Wauseon steel. LOL

I may break out the Edge Pro on one of mine tonite just to put a prettier edge on it. At least I have 2 LE's on the way, too. Altho those may be give-aways to friends of mine.

Thanks, Eric!! For the record...I purchased my HCLE after reading Vic's post, with no worries about the quality or toughness of SR knives.

I also think that Vic is a stand up member, admitting that it was used as a prybar and not for it's intended "slicing" duties

great knife!

Thanks for the link.

I know it's a year later, but I found this looking for something else.

Never got a HC, had that niche pretty covered, but I did pick up on a Scrap Muk for kitchen duty. That and my Bog Dog compliment each other, with the curved and straight edges.

Hope this stuff sharpens easier than the D2. That stuff is harder than my kids head! :D

Rob

I really like looks of the HC. When I get the extra dough, I'll be looking for one.
