What are your thoughts on using this steel in a folder? The new Benchmade BM730 uses 154CM, and it looks just right for me. Anybody using it?

It is the same as ATS-34, its an old steel but is coming into its own again... I am moving away from Japanese ATS and going to 154 CM... I figure most will do the same... It ALWAYS bugged me buying JAPANESE steel for knives...

My SpeedTech has it and I like it. I have a custom fixed blade made with 154CM that I bought over 20 years ago and it has been a real good knife.

154-CM and ATS-34 are not the same steels. Close, but different! Spyderco and A.G Russell have good knife charts at there web sites and if you look close at the chart you can see the differences as far as the makeup of these two steels are.

I have also found that 154-CM is not quite as brittle as ATS-34 can be either.

I'll take 154-CM over ATS-34 anytime!

P.S. Here is the link to Spyderco's steel chart: SPYDERCO STEEL CHART

We are talking about negligible differences !!!
I'm prone to belive - too mild expression - I'm sure that no one can tell the difference between 154CM and ATS-34 if both are properly heat-treated.

I forgot to answer to the orginal Q:
If you have liked ats-34 you'll like 154CM.

I got my 730 today. 154 CM seems to feel better. I don't know why. It just does. It feels more shiny.

It is a great knife except for the fact that it came very dull out of the box. I will change it though. Everything else was perfect.
