wondering if anyone has an opinion on the fixed presidio. i'm looking for a decent priced all around survival-camp tool. any suggestions would be welcome.

For some reason I don't like the looks of Benchmade's fixed Presidio, nor the CSKII, nor the Nimravus. The just don't look like practical cutters. It just doesn't look like if you needed to put some leverage into a cut you would be able to achieve it. But I don't own the knife therefore, my perspective = void.

thanks for the response squeezymo! i as well think they may be a little odd, however benchmade is known for quality. i'll have to wait and hear from someone who has used one. i do like the fact that the presidio has a .180" blade thickness. that dosen't prove anything though, just a thick blade.

Hey no problem. Well what are your requirements for the knife?

What length blade, what kind of steel?

i would prefer nothing shorter than 6" with any high quality steel. d-2, s30v, 154cm, etc.. just nothing cheap, such as aus-4(6).

i'm trying to limit myself to no more than $200 and that is pushing my limit but would consider it for the "perfect" knife for my needs. camping, hunting, survival. i have been searching for 1 knife that i can carry for most cutting needs. maybe neesmuk had it right all along!

Fallkniven A1

i'm going to research this knife right now. i've heard of this one but have never really took a serious look! thanks again for you held and advice!!!

fallkniven a1 or swamp rat? have looked into swamp rat in the past, a little pricey but may be worth the extra $. the a1 does look like a nice choice with a resonable price. don't care for the sheath but that can always be replaced!

Benchmade has the new CSK II coming out this year. Full tang with a kraton handle (no Bilt system). The blade is 1095 carbon. Looks a bit like the Cold Steel SRK. It's worth taking a look at. www.benchmade.com

Take a look at the BM151 Fixed Griptilian which is only going to cost you around $100. It has a 4.16" blade made of 154cm. The blade is not as thick as the Presidio but is thicker than the Nimravus plus you have the option of a satin blade finish as with the other two you can only get a black coated blade. The grip on it will be much better and more practical in survival/camping conditions than the other two as well.

I liked my Presidio. The Swamprats are better. Check out scrap yard knives too. Theyre in between the two in price.

thanks all for the info! thanks to kljtech for the info on ranger knives. i have never heard of them until now. (WOW-nice knives). would someone who has one of the beauties give some info on there performance. the swamp rats look nice but for the price the rangers seem to be just as nice. any help would be very appreciated!
