15n20 toughness?

Kuraki and larrin were talking about the disappointing toughness results of 15n20, anyone venture a guess why?

z tuff and 8670 both ranked high on toughness ratings, 15n20 is similar to all but has more nickel, some of the the crazy maraging steels have either high or medium high nickel?

The 15n20 used for the initial test was from a used bandsaw blade. I sent new samples with new steel, but they haven’t been machined yet.

Right on Warren appreciate it! Think new stock will be as tough as say 8670 or more or less if you had to guess?

Should be quite similar. I’ve never broke a blade with either at Rc62. On the other hand, I thought L6 would be as tough as 8670, but it wasn’t.

8670 seems to be much tougher than expected for some reason. In my testing, it did hold up better than 15n20. But I’m anxious for Larrins testing.

I've been able to test many more steels and heat treatments thanks to volunteers like Warren.
