I wanted to know if y'all could date this knife for me. I paid 40 dollars for it at the sale this morning. I have been looking for one for my collection of Schrades. I also have a Schrade 15ot that I turned into a user in my effort to clean some dried oil off the blade. It isnt a Walden. I have done some research on the site and I think my new knife could be a 64 or 65. Could someone verify my conclusion?Notice the cardboard insert. Also,if I look deep inside the sheath I can see something metallic. It must be the sheath design fix? Also, should i do anything about the tarnish on the pins or just leave them alone?Thank you for looking.

15OT Deerslayer 10 1/2" closed; 6" fixed blade w/ sheath first made in 1964, last made as a Schrade Walden in 1972. That is a pretty low serial number. I would say it is a lot closer to 1964 than 1972.

The metal plate is to protect the leather from that pointed blade, and I would leave the knife as is other than rubbing off any tarnish with an oiled rag. Nice find.

You done good at $40. That's a nice knife. I love neighborhood garage sales. I just walk from house to house and stand at the top of the driveway, stop, wait for someone that looks like the keeper of the goods to make eye contact and then I holla ... "hi, got any pocket knives? or hunting, or fishing knives... any kinda knives 'cept kitchen knives" Most of the time the answer is "sorry, no." Every once in a while the question is followed by a thoughtful pause ... and then ... the words I long to hear ---> "wait a minute."

They disappear into the house .... and upon their return comes either heartbreak or jubilation.

Again, nice find.
