Hi, I recently won a 15OT on ebay. I was wondering about it's approximate age. The markings on the knife read "Schrade-Walden, New York U.S.A " and on the other side it says "15OT patent pending" It came with a basket weave type sheath with a leather thong threaded around the edges of the sheath. It is in pretty good condition with no rust but a few spots of minor pitting.Only paid $33 + shipping. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

That is a good one first model late 60 tys. Someone will probably be able to pin it down further. You did well. The Pat pending and sheath are both also a plus. LT

LT Thanks for the info. I should have done a search before asking . Codger had the info in another post. I'm learning.

Check 15OT in the archives.Codger never passes up a chance to plug one of his favorite patterns, good information there.Nice find.Toby

I wasn't ignoring you beekay. Lt gave you correct basic info. I keep forgetting that new folks find it difficult to learn to use the search function. Here is my post about the 15OT that I did some time back. I hope it helps you learn about your new knife and appreciate it even more. Then you'll say "I only have one??":D

Codger, I expected to see your name on this one:

Isn't that the truth. Every time I get a new pattern, if its in mint condition I need to find a user, if its used I need to find one NIB. Does it ever end?

Naw Redshanks another fan or is it fanatic had his name on it.Besides the blade doesn't look right.Arnold

Nice find Beekay!

And a beautiful knife, Redshanks!

For the newbies passing through, here is what the knife in quesiton looks like. It's my own 'patent pending' 15OT with lace up sheath. It is serial number 115642.

And guys... when were the serial numbers dropped?

I saw the turq when it was listed. I left it for bait. Certain people have 165's like these and they need to have a matching 15OT. Those of whom I speak know who they are. It does appear from the photo to be a nice rehandle, and we know now to request more and better pictures of something like this, right guys? I wouldn't pass on it just because it isn't stock, but I wouldn't buy it for only that reason either. Where de pins, guys?

Toby, there's nothing wrong with the blade, it looks like the new style grind, also found on late 152OT's. If you end up buying it, you just have to have a matching 165 with a turquoise handle. Let me know and I'll be happy to fix you up.

Great it can also go with the turquoise LB7 I'm bidding on.The blade doesn't match the 1990 claim in the description.Toby

15OT #58668 did not have pending on it but was a Walden. I have several pending knives, one with the pending etched, and only #11837 has the serial number, and it is provenanced to a 1966 USAF PX sale, probably in the system a year or more. The Schrade USA 15OT tangstamp I have never seen with a serial number, so evidently before '73. Are you sure yours is not #15642? The patent issued in November of 1965.

Thanks for all the info gentleman.I already gave it to a friend who likes bigger knives. I prefer the sharpfingers myself and have picked up a few on ebay and at a knife show. The knife show was a few weeks ago and it was the first time I held one and immediatly fell in love with them.

Impossible to get a pic of the tang marking, but the number is 11542, just under the 15OT. "pat.pend' is on two lines just to the right of the 15OT.
Beekay... thanks again for bringing this quesiton up.
Phil
