16.5" vs 18" WWII

Subject says it all. I was originally leaning towards the 18" WWII, but then I got to thinking that if the Ghurkas carried the standard 16.5" blade during a World War, then it would be good enough for me as well.

Opinions? :)

Kmart,

16.5" and 18" are the overall length measurement. The blades are about 10" and 12" long respectively.

Which to go with, will depend on what you are planning to do with it. The Gurkhas are small guys, you would probably feel comfortable with the 18" model. But, those extra oz. can get heavy on long hikes.

Don't sweat it - you will eventually buy both of them. :)

Before I purchased a BAS, I chose it because it would be about the right size for a small backpack.

When I received it I thought it was quite large and had the thickest spine of any knife I had ever seen.

After I had it for a week, it seemed to be not too big and not too large.

Now, I want something bigger :D

I was thinking about the 18" WW2 myself :) Although for outdoor excursions I would still probably pack the BAS. If I'm really feeling weak or lazy maybe just the karda.

Set out 2 shot glasses.

Fill one with 80 proof vodka. Down it in one swallow. Notice it warm all the way to the pit of your tummy. That's the 16.5 WW2. Get the picture?

Now fill the other glass with either 193 or 151 proof Everclear ( whichever is available in your state ). Likewise down it in one gulp. Notice the blisters forming in your throat, the napalm igniting as it hits the belly. That's the 18" WW2.

The difference in weight is negligible, and the extra 1 1/2" overall isn't much. But the difference in leverage and velocity... oooooh, baby! Any other questions? Didn't think so.

Or better yet, simply buy a bottle of Stolichnaya or Yubiley, stick it in the freezer for an hour or so, then just sip it and enjoy - Russian style!:D :p ;)

In order to stay within the particular idiom, however, how about this... Slowly sip a good single malt scotch. Then you've got an 18th century model.

Does that sound right?? ;)

What Rusty said. There is a big jump going from an 16.5" WWII to an 18" WWII. However the 18" WWII is noticably slower.

Oh please, isn't it time to reset your clock to STANDARD time? That might help.

If not, it's 17:00 somewhere in the world... Just think of it as weeding out the weak brains cells! :D :D

I got my quota last night so I'm good for another 8 hours or so.

"fill me with that old familiar juice,
methinks I might recover bye and bye"
