Got it home and compared the new Sher to my Bura. Not a dime's worth of difference in workmanship and finish.

Still, the 16.5" Bura WW2 and the 18" Bura Sirupati both sit perfectly balanced in my hand. The 16.5" Sher WW2 has a forward weight. Tape 2 quarters ( 2 25 cent coins ) to the Bura an inch from the tip and you'd have the hang of the Sher. Tape 2 quarters ( 2 25 cent pieces ) to the buttcap of the Sher and you'd have the liveliness of the Bura.

They look similar, even the coloring of the handles in the same place. Place them right side down ( maker's mark down ) and they can't be told apart except the Sher is maybe 1/8th inch longer. You can't tell by looking at them side by side. Put them point down and look at the buttcaps. Then you can tell if you look close.

Without using a micrometer, I couldn't tell a difference in the handles. Same fit and finish. But blindfold me and I'd know immediately which was which. The Sher feels more solid, the Bura more lively.

Now I think I'll go count the different number of angels that can dance on the heads of two pins chosen randomly from the same box. ( Why do I have this headache? )

I'd rather ponder the riddle you proposed (and give a logical answer), than figure out the whys and hows of the nuances of making these silly boomerang shaped knives. :D

So Rusty, will the forward weight of the Sher mean better chopping, the balance of the Bura better fighting? You know, for all those knife fights you all get into in the Expressway of the Loons.

Is the Sher heavier?

I can hardly take them down to the Post Office for weighing, or use the scales in the produce section of the supermarket.

Unless, maybe I go to the local judge and tell him I've got something to show him that tops the quality of his Les Baer 45... maybe we could get away with taking them into Safeway if we did it together?

How much does 2 quarters weigh? I think a thousand dollar bag of quarters or dimes weighs around 83 pounds IIRC from back when I worked in the casino vault.

Rusty, you really lost me on those quarters, Man. I'm supposed to be the Tangential One, but geeze...

I asked the local general store if he's weigh my Mausers for me. Tell you what; when you come up to visit me someday bring the khuks and guns you want weighed and we'll make a day of it.

Actually, I weigh most my khuks on a small postal scale you can get cheap at any office supply store. Probably cost me 6 bucks. I need a new one because small boys are fascinated to see how far they can turn the needle on the face around...and around.

Go back to the top post where I've emboldened the pertinent part. I'm just saying if you took two 25 cent pieces or one half-dollar, and used scotch or electricians tape to tape the coins to the blade tip or butt of the khuks it'd probably change the feel to about the difference between the Bura and the Sher.

There you go dragging us back on topic again!

When I worked for Brink's in 1989, quarters were $22.75 a pound.

Dimes were $22.80. :p

Yeah, I remember one was a little different than the other, but that was 30 years ago.

Munk, some times my mind shows up for work, then takes off for lunch and doesn't come back.

Other times it takes the whole day off. Without calling in.
