Here is a WWII that Vikash found that is marked by a mystery kami. You can see that he has used the trisul or trident as his mark but we don't know who he is yet. Gelbu told me that he had hired two new kamis and would provide me with bio data and their marks soon -- no information yet. But at least he marked the blade, God bless him.

However, to get to the knife itself, it seems the mystery kami pays a little more attention to specs than most of our kamis. The khukuri is 16.5 inches and weighs 1.5 pounds. It is 7/16 thick and 2 inches wide. The fit of the bolster is 95% and could be improved. Otherwise it's good. Finish is 95%. He has not used the magic stone to get the mirror finish but it is certainly acceptable. Karda and chakma are impressive and about 7 inches long. The sarkis are still dragging their feet on the scabbards and I see variation in quality which should not be there. This one is a 90% scabbard. The HI superfrog is 99%.

So, here's the deal. Who wants this WWII rig -- maybe a 9.5 out of 10 first effort by a new mystery kami for $95 and write an evaluation of his work? We'll find out who this guy is and what he looks like soon -- I hope. Save $30 off regular and get a first edition to boot.

Call or email if interested.

Khukuri FAQ

Nice looking curve to the blade. Ah well, I've already busted my budget. I just wanted to see if I could beat Ben to the post.

I would have beaten ya Kevin! I had to pass since I just got the Elk Khukuri. I have to give that thing a name.......

Hey Ben -- you scored the elk khukuri. Cool. Please give us your assessment after you get it.

Uncle, when you can contact the mystery kami, please ask him if the mark is a trident or a flying bird. I can't tell tail from head...

Did you enjoy today?

You got it, Kevin. I can't wait to get it. I guess it's official name is the Elk Khukuri now. We keep calling it that,so be it. Kinda.....well....unimaginative though, ain't it?

Elk Khukri?
El Khukri?
Elkhukri?
Elkri...

It's the Elkri.

Uncle Bill, have you given this new khukri by the mystery kami the file test? How does the heat treat feel? How even is the edge? One seemingly common note amongst us khukriphiles is that some new blades have sharp and round areas on the edges. Is this new kami really working on details like that (you mentioned the bolster could fit better)?

In short, I'm wondering if this new blade is indicative of his work, or if this might be "first day on the job, let's impress the boss" work. Of course, we'll have to wait and see from more examples, and we might learn more about his experience when we get his bio, but what do you think? We have certainly seen kamis get better. Have you seen any get noticeably worse over time?

OK, Edd, will do or. Tom and all, got more info on the "mystery kami" which I'll post later. We got a call from Gelbu and Pradeep last night and learned about "him". Interesting stuff. Stay tuned.

Khukuri FAQ

It came in yesterday , and boy this is a beauty . This new mystery kami realy knows what he is doing . Everyone out there ...If another mystery kami blade comes up ,grab it quick , these are very , very nice khuks . The handle length and shape are perfect .Tell this kami not to change a thing on the WWII.

Just went out and cleared a little brush in the backyard. Mostly hackthorn and small hardwoods anywhere from 1/2 inch to 3 inch in diameter . On anything under 1-1 1/2 inches ,it went thru it like butter . The rest took only 2 chops. The blade held up like a trooper . I must say that the edge geometry is great . If any more of these mystery kami blades come up , GRAB THEM !!

These mystery kamis learned the trade from Ganga Ram, a master kami in every sense of the word. I am not surprised their work is good and I am sure the khukuris they make will be in demand.

And thanks for good field report, Edd.
