After reading that wonderful "An Uncle Henry Display Case (Easy Vendor)" thread, I realized I might have one of those 165 UH Prospectors. Is this one a 165 UH Prospector. It has Serial Number 01482 stamped on it.

Is there a book that reference the Schrade-Walden Knives?

Thank you,

Not really yet. Mr. Bruce Voyles has been comissioned to write one and it is somewhere in production, but not released yet. What did you want to know about the 165UH? Yes, that is an early first production 165UH, first appearing in the catalogs in 1969. Yours would have been the 1,482nd one produced and serialized.

Nice one Jackie! You seem to have amassed a nice collection of Schrade fixed blades from what I'ves seen of your posts:thumbup::thumbup:

Eric,

Thank you.

I'm so new in collecting Schrade-Walden's that I didn't know if there was two different 165 UH's or not.

I'm not new at knife collecting just Schrade-Walden. I do have an extensive Case knife collection. They are still my primary collectible. Do love the Schrade-Walden knives and they're growing on me, fast.

Jackie

Jackie, the Waldens were made with the thumb grooves and oval shield. A later Schrade production I believe in the nineties was made without the thumb grooves and with the standard UH shield.

Codger, didn't you pick up a nice Schrade Walden 165UH in the brown box awhile back? Or was it another Schrade Walden that got out of hand? If so, what was the serial number on yours?

There were essentially three 165UH productions. Sorta. The first was the Schrade Walden, circa 1969-70,

and a second production run circa 1994-1997.

A third production has appeared which may have been leftovers from a 1998 165DU issue. It has no shield and was hollow ground.

No, not I. I haven't bought much in the past few months.

Back when we could see bids, I remember one just like the top one of the three you posted. I thought maybe you got it. Those ones usually bring a premium price. I don't have a 165UH. They don't come around too often in new condition.

The 165UH is one nice knife. I wonder why Clemente has this one but not the 165 Old Timer? I have the Old Timer that has Schrade USA 165 on the blade.
Tom

According to Clemente, page 85, the tang stamp should read, "Schrade USA" and the model number "1650T." My tang stamp has "Schrade USA" but just "165." Is this the same?

The 165OT was one of the few Old Timer knives where they did not add the "OT" identifier to the tangstamp.

While the "UH" identifier was added to the Uncle Henry Version. Why not? Indeed!

Clemente's work was groundbreaking, and remains one of the most important resources available to Schrade collectors. But like every reference book ever printed, it reflects the author's best knowledge at the time of publication. Even BR Levine admits frequently to errors in his important LG4. Research is always ongoing as new resources come to light, so new information surfaces, particularly on aspects many consider "trivial", frequently contradicting accepted knowledge.
