Here is a 17.5 inch Chiruwa Ang Khola by mystery kami number 2 -- he didn't sign his blade, no mark. The khukuri is 9/16 thick and weighs 2.5 pounds -- I think this guy may have been using Sher's forge, patterns and notes --hefty khukuri but not quite up to Sher's level of work.
Whoever he is we are going to give him about a 9.6 or 9.7 out of ten on this khukuri. His fit could be just a little better than it is. Otherwise he has put together a very decent khukuri. Nice finish -- not magic stone but very good. Hardening is very good. Karda is 7 inches, almost 3/16 thick and hardened up nicely -- meant to be used. Scabbard is 95% and HI superfrog is 99%. Really, the only problem with this rig is the blade is not marked so we don't know who made it and the bolster and handle fit could be improved a little. We do know this rig was made in BirGorkha and is so marked and is almost perfect (but not quite) but has no flaws serious enough to qualify it for the blem box -- an "in betweener" work of a new BirGorkha kami.
Vikash told me we have two or three like this and we are going to discount them as follows. No kami mark -- $25 off and another $20 off for the fit which could be improved. I am certainly not ashamed of this knife and it deserves the HI logo but this new kami needs to improve about 5 or 10 percent to get to HI top standards.
So, here's the deal on this one and any other Vikash can dig out of the heap like it -- $100 even, we pay shipping and you write a report on what you think of the work of our new mystery kami.
Call or email if interested.
