Hello,

Here is one I just finished up. I committed to trying something new before completing a few orders. This is my first "classic" style bowie. I rarely have done through-tangs, guards, ferrules or buttcaps. This is also my largest knife to-date so it represents a lot of new stuff for me. It starkly contrasts alot of the knives I make, which makes it feel special to me.

This is a huge, Honkin' Bowie! Its over 17" in total length, and the stag is about 5.5" and 2" wide in the back. Its got crazy popcorn all over it, and swells into your palm great (it could be called right-hand specific). The stag is much smoother where your fingers come in contact with it, which is a nice touch.

I fileworked the guard and ferrule edge and etched them, as well as deeply etched the buttcap.

The blade has a long raised clip and is nearly 2" wide.

Havent made a sheath for it yet, or may send it out for one.

Specs:
-11.5" Blade, 17" OAL
-1/4" O1 Toolsteel blade, nearly mirror finished, hand rubbed
-Damascus Guard, Ferrule, Buttcap
-Mosaic pins on buttcap and tang
-"Popcorn" Sambar Stag

Let me know what you think!

Very sweet. I just love the fitted butt cap. Excellent work!

After all the work and skilled craftsmanship, you must be proud of the results.

Up there with the best knives I've seen 10/10 in my books :)

Wow! I think that is the best looking knife I have ever seen!
And I am an old man, been around awhile.

Thanks everyone!

As for the buttcap it was fitted like this:

-rough cut slab of damascus
-superglue slab to stag
-Drill pins through billet into stag
-Trace outline of stag
-Remove billet from stag, rough grind closer to traced outline
-Re-fit using pins as guides, re-trace, repeat grinding/filing
-Once fitted, sand to 400-600 grit and etch heavily and attach to knife.

Beautiful David! You work fast too, or so it seems from when you first started asking about popcorn stag.

I finished the blade before the stag arrived, then did the rest over the course of a week. Lots of hours put into filing the guard and ferrule, fitting the guard and buttplate....I usually spend so long on handles, it was weird to just smooth the tips off and not have any other handle work to do. I wouldn't want to estimate how long this one took....lots of hours. Hand sanding a 11"x2" hardened O1 steel blade was an act of ultimate patience....

Nice. I have never been a big fan of stag but, some of you guys are slowly changing that. Really great knife
