17" laptop bag

I use a Timbuk2 Commute that I am a big fan of. It is very well made, comfortable, and holds everything well. The padded laptop portion is on the outside, so you do not have to open the bag to get to the laptop. The inner pocket is spacious, with plenty of room for extra crap, plus a bunch of small pockets for pens, KNIVES!!!, power cords, etc. The handle is really sturdy and you can grab it even with all the pockets and flaps open and it does not tip over and have everything fall out thanks to the way they attached the handle. Water bottle pockets on the outside, comfortable strap, padded exterior (on the old version, not sure about the new 2.0), solid buckles, etc.

I have the medium version, but they make a large version as well that would fit your laptop. The current colors look kind of lame, but you can't go wrong with black. I have an older style called herringbone or something similar that looks really slick.

I am gonna say either timbuk2 or waterfield designs. I think the site for waterfield is sfbags.com

I have what looks like A brief case but it is meant for a laptop. It protect the laptop very good against knocks unlike a bag wood do for you. I put my mouse and power cords and other stuff in it too.

Thanks, folks. Good suggestions.

The timbuk2's look very nice, esp. the commute 2.0, even though the d-lux messenger is bigger, but not as laptop friendly, esp. for travel. The search will continue, but for now it may be a toss up bet. a timbuk2, the incase messenger bag, or the targus backpack.

Thank you again,
Frank

Skooba 17

I've been using one for 3 years and it's by far the best bag I've used.

Take a real quick look at REI Outlet, they have some good discontinued models and an extra 20% off sale that ends today.

How is the airbag padding holding up?

Holding up very well. No popped or damaged padding. I've dropped this bag a few times with no damage whatsoever to my laptop.

Thanks Ken, they have a few deals going that might work for me.

Hey, all.

Well, I've been looking around, and have narrowed it down to maybe one of the timbuk2's [commute 2.0 or command]; the 5.11 Tactical Rush 72 backpack [I would need a laptop sleeve, though]; one of the Maxpedition gear bags, and maybe one or two others, but it's late, and I don't recall all the names. I missed out on the rei sale, but maybe I'll catch a deal somewhere else.

The search continues.

Be well,
Frank
