Can anyone tell me if the handle on a Chinese made 171 UH fit on an older USA made knife?

I've only had experience with one Taylor made imitation Schrade. It was a 34OT stockman and compared to my genuine 34OT it was smaller in it's length and width so if it were that knife I would not recommend it. However, if you have one that is in bad enough shape to warrant scale replacement, you could either have a set of custom scales put on or bite the bullet and get a Taylor made and strip them off and see. At this point what have you got to lose?

Schrade USA Pro Hunter - 10-1/2" total length; 5-5/8" blade

Taylor Pro Hunter - 9 7/8" overall. 5 3/8" stainless clip blade

If you do your homework, you will notice Schrade did two different butt styles on the 171. I have not handled these, but find out if the plastic sandbar slabs are the same, or if either match the Taylor version.

TBLLC bought the intellectual property but did not, as far as I know, buy the molding and blanking dies. From what I have personally seen, the TBLLC knives are made to resemble the Imperial Schrade knives, but they are not exact copies. I would be surprised if the Chinese made components fit the American made knives. My best suggestion, as stated above, do a custom rehandle, or buy an as-new example and retire your old one if it is unusable as is.

A few years back I bought a Taylor 171UH to compare with the USA models I have. No comparison I have to say in workmanship. I think you will have to decide for yourself if you want to try the Taylor 171UH handle on an original USA 171UH. Take a look at the pictures below, The handles are very similar and may fit with some work to the new handle the rear butt plate has a diffrent angle, very slight difference in length, the Taylor handle is fatter than an original handle although that would not matter in fitting. the choice is yours!!
