Fresh today... here are some pics. A little smaller than the leek but thicker in the handle. Reminds me of the Leek G10 in the hand. Flipper is cool... wanted to check out the Lee Williams mechanism. Enjoy!

Man, that's nice...my wallet is getting killed with all these new Kershaws! Oh, well, another call to the pharmacy.

Ok, now for some thoughts on it... as I posted before playing with the knife much. Kershaw does a really great job of embracing change:) They are constantly trying new things, not afraid to try out the newest concepts knifemakers bring to the market. As I said before, I really wanted to try out Lee's mechanism. It works great, just a little different. I would never have thought there would be so many ways you could flip something with your finger, but each flipper I try is a little different. The only ones I haven't liked are those that need wrist, even after practice... I think using your wrist sort of defeats the purpose and magic of a well designed flipper. Anyway, this one works just great, and the little flipper tab thing is interesting. Has anyone gotton an explanation on why the flipper is two separate pieces???? Is that how Lee builds them as well? I'd love to know. I love the unblasted or coated blades, as so many from Kershaw are not these days. I think helps to mix it up a bit, and the blade on this one is quite nice. All and all, this little knife seems to scream EDC. It's very comfortable, feels great in the hand and is just the right weight, not too heavy or light. Plus it's about $20 less than the larger one, and the appeal to me with this design is in the smaller version, but that might just be me. Thanks again Kershaw! Keep it up!

Yes, Lee makes folders with that mechanism. He calls it the kick stop.

Sometime manual flippers on a smaller blade can be tricky to get right, so it's good to hear that the small ENER-G works just as nicely as the larger one. Not that I can say I expected any other result. :)

Hey OE, I'm getting some conflicting info about the Ener-G. The small version that you have, is the blade 3" or 3.5"?

The one I have is under 3"... Kershaw has it listed on their site as the Ener-G. It's funny because the box it came in had it listed as the Ener-G2. Just an error, I think.

The other larger one is the Ener-G 2 and has the 3.5" blade. One way to quickly see the difference in the photos is that the smaller version has only 2 clip screws while the larger has 3

Late developments: it's not evident in the pictures I posted, But the 1740 I got had 1 issue... it was poorly centered when closed, almost rubbing. I took it back this morning and they gave me one of the first productions which has perfect centering. In fact, the whole knife seems a lot tighter, and that goes for the flipper as well. By the time you give the flipper enough pressure to move it zips open. Time will tell how it loosens up later. The first knife above did not have the first Production mark and they had added Lee Williams Design. I assume that was the second run and I wonder if they loosened up some things or changed something. The new one (first run) has a much better, tighter feel to me. Anyway, here is the new pictures:

Looks really great. Add another to my wish list. I have a JYD and a Needs Work on the way. Can't wait!!

hey, maybe you can help me with that... I seem to have found the max size I can download. Do you have any general formula for width/dpi?

I'm making mine 95dpi and 4" wide

I just download my pics from my camera, then upload them to photobucket. PB does the rest.
