I don't like very much this white bone version, but it is good to see they improved the blade shape. I might try them again if they do this blade with carbon fiber or dyed jigged bone.
A few months ago I got Brother 1503 because many reviewers said it is great, but it turned out to be a total failure. I guess youtubers just opened a few times and didn't use it. Lockback is solid, no blade play, construction quality and value are good. The problem is huge edge thickness and low grind that quickly gets even thicker. It didn't cut great to begin with and when it lost factory sharpness it became knife like pocket decoration.
I don't claim to be great sharpener, but over the years I had knives from 440a and 8cr13mov to m390 and zdp189 and also vg10 from other companies and 1503 was the first time I had big trouble sharpening. I had to use a coarse stone and a lot of time to get it barely cut printer paper. Couldn't get it any better, medium and fine stones were getting darker from the grinding, but no noticeable improvement.
I don't have a device to measure edge thickness, but I have BM Proper with similar blade shape that people say is already too thick. Hold both edges between fingers and 1503 feels at least 3 times thicker than Proper. I could almost say some Rough Riders have thinner spine than this have edge.
This one's blade looks like they improved and I hope they will do more thin full flat blades in the future. Good construction quality, affordable, more traditional knives with decent steel are almost impossible to get where I live. Because of that it was very dissappointing to see they ruined a nice 1503 with ridiculously thick barely sharpenable prybar.
