The use of a felt or cloth wheel loaded with polishing compound for sharpening is fairly common, I'm not sure about a leather wheel but imagine it would also work. Be very careful when using any power tool to sharpen your blade, I understand this is how a lot of injuries happen in knife makers shops.

$30 BENCH GRINDER,$5 6" COTTON BUFFER WHEELS,MULTI-PACK OF ROUGE,A DIMMER SWITCH TO MAKE IT RUN SLOW OR FAST! Works great and you can get it all at SEARs or LOWES HARDWARE!!:D OH YEAH IT WORKS GREAT ON SERREATED EDGES!!!

I got a 1" belt/6" disc grinder on sale. I then got a leather belt from Lee Valley and loaded it with buffing compound. It works fine. Buffing on a wheel takes lots of experience as friction is high, and is dangerous.
Normally though I hone the blade on a large a surface as possible, then strop with first carborundum powder in oil, then green buffing compound. All by hand - satisfying..
