It’s been a while since a triangular box appeared on my doorstep, but one did recently. Inside was this 18” tin chirra.
Weighing in at 26 ounces, this hits the weight and length favored by many westerners for a general use woods blade. The traditional handle is very comfortably sized for my hand, with nary a point nor uncomfortable edge to be found. As always, I am charmed by the solid gravitas of a blade forged for the generations. The three fullers add a touch of understated elegance to the utilitarian blade. The brown leather sheath has its own beauty. I prefer it to the black dyed sheaths made popular by the militaries. It comes with the traditionally sized karda and chakma. This is where I part with tradition as I prefer them a bit larger than the traditional sizes. It’s difficult to argue with the utility of those sizes though, as it has been proven over the centuries.
This is a winner for a large person seeking a general purpose khukuri. A knife for a lifetime. I see Yangdu posted another like it today.
