Weighing in at 26 ounces, this hits the weight and length favored by many westerners for a general use woods blade. The traditional handle is very comfortably sized for my hand, with nary a point nor uncomfortable edge to be found. As always, I am charmed by the solid gravitas of a blade forged for the generations. The three fullers add a touch of understated elegance to the utilitarian blade. The brown leather sheath has its own beauty. I prefer it to the black dyed sheaths made popular by the militaries. It comes with the traditionally sized karda and chakma. This is where I part with tradition as I prefer them a bit larger than the traditional sizes. It’s difficult to argue with the utility of those sizes though, as it has been proven over the centuries.

This is a winner for a large person seeking a general purpose khukuri. A knife for a lifetime. I see Yangdu posted another like it today.

Beautiful piece Howard. Its hard to beat that blade for both beauty and utilitarianism (is that a word?). Thamars work is awesome!

That is a beauty Howard.

I can see that. But I have khukuris enough to last several lifetimes. What to do?

Find a protégé. Or 10. I have one headed now to a lass who lives in a wood heated cabin with her older mother and needs a tool for making kindling, etc.

Old guys should be passing along their knowledge, and stuff. You don’t need more than 5 or 10 khukuris in your casket. More than that could sink Charon’s boat across the river Styx.

I learned about Himalayan Imports and khukuris in May. I decided to count how many people I have introduced into the world of the bent blade since then. I have given or sold them to 21 different friends or family members. Some of those 21 have acquired more than one. A few of them may never use them but the majority have been really impressed and use them. I always tell the story of HI, Bill, and the kamis to each one. My brother has referred to me as the knife evangelist.
