18" AK or WWII ?

I've read a lot of great things about both these models, including that the handles are longer than the standard 15" AK -- a plus in my book. I am trying to decide between them & could use a little help.

If anyone owns both, I'd love to hear which you prefer & why. Naturally, I'd also like to hear opinions from folks who own one or the other.

I don't have a specific purpose in mind, per se, but rather am looking for an all-around model, i.e., tool, toy, and -- if need be -- weapon.

Finally, Bill, do you have specs on the 18" AK? It's not listed in the brochure & I couldn't find specs on the forums.

Thanks, folks.

Clay, our old pal Cliff bought the last 18 inch AK I had in stock. If I know Cliff he will be testing this knife as only Cliff tests and will put up some results. There should be no surprises. It was about a half inch thick and 2 pounds as I recall. This Ak will out perform the WWII. It is heavier and thicker.

Thanks for the info, Bill. I guess if I decide on immediate gratification, it will be the WWII. However, I did a search using "18", the results of which further complicate my decision. I learned that you have an 18" WWII model that is also out of stock. Can you please explain the basic differences between this and the 18" AK? Also, when do you expect a resupply of each? Thanks again.

Brian,

I just received a WWII from Uncle Bill and it is an exceptional blade. I think it is an excellent size. A tad bigger than the 15 inchers. And just because it isn't quite as hefty as an AK, don't think you have to baby it. It is very thick!

I would give the WWII a try and if it isn't quite big enough, go for an 18" AK or the larger WWII. Of course, then you would have to choose between those two...

Brian, I asked Uncle Bill what my 1st HI should be and my requirements were close to yours. The 18" WWII is a GEM! Tried to comment on it (see 1st HI). I'll have both when I can but you cannot go wrong w/ 18" WWII. Also have the honor of owning one that passed Uncle Bills' testing.

If you are not sure what you are going to use it for get the 18" WWII model. The 18" WWII model will outcut the Ang Khola. It will also out chop the 15" Ang Khola.

As Uncle Bill has pointed out the 18" Ang Khola will outchop the WWII model. It is also probably stronger than the WWII model The 18" WWII model is probably strong enough for any unassisted force a human being can put on it (no pipes, vises, or hydraulics).

Try seaching for information on 17.5 WWII model as well. These were suppose to be 18" models. Bill posted the 17.5" length but they were sold very quickly anyways.

Thanks for all the input, folks. Will, the tip on seaching for the 17.5 WWII model turned up quite a bit of good info.

I think I'm close to a decision. Bill, when do you expect to be getting more 17.5/18" WWIIs?

Thanks, Bill. I'll let you know as soon as I decide for sure.

Welcome to my world, Clay! Bill did say something about just getting a special order 24 inch Sirupati.

I'm going to post specs on the 24 inch Sirupati. It's the first of that length we ever made.
