Well, the 18" AK arrived today...NOW THAT'S A KNIFE! Ok, I stole the line, but it holds true. Whereas the BAS hummed, this one sang. Uncle Bill, the workmanship is very nice...beautiful. The little bit of rust that made it a best buy wiped off with a little Gun Brite polish. I can't wait to test it out this weekend. But then, I kind of just want to look at it a while without marring the surface. The edge that Shanker put on it is much sharper than the BAS I received the other day. Another freshman question: What's the best angle for touching up these blades? M43 and/or WWII...you're next.

Concrats on the 18" AK. :D

You will find that it is really a worker, it chops, and splits wood better than a hatchet.

And you won't have to worry about breaking it either as you can use it as a pry bar too. :D

I have had my 18" AK for alittle while now and it is the first one I grab when I have to do some work. :)

The AKs are fun but if I'm not chopping a tree then it will really wear out my arms. I like my WW2 quite a bit more, hopefully my new M43 will live up to expectations when I test it this weekend.

Yes, it is a big piece of metal. I may have to go to the gym for a while before I use it...or maybe it will take the place of having to go to the gym. What the heck, I wouldn't go to the gym anyway.

btice-- if you want to put on a convex edge (or maintain one, depending on your khukuris), check out this convex sharpening link. Buzzbait provides some excellent info on sharpening convex blades, and all you need is a few sheets of wet/dry paper and an old mousepad. You should also check out the sharpening section in the FAQ on the HI website. A search of the HI forum for terms like sharpen and sharpening will provide you with tons of info.

Thanks Josh. I will check out that link. I am using the HI FAQ's on a regular basis. Valuable stuff there, that's for sure.
