What is the blade length on the 18" Ang Khola? Looking at the pictures of it, looks to be around 12" how does the 18" compare to the 20" besides weight?

It used to be the 20" AK as delivered from the site was quite a step from the 18" AK. Heavier- another level up. I don't know what's happening now, but I know who does, and if you are looking for certain specs, then writing Yangdu directly and ordering from the site is the way to go.

that depends... five different 18 inch AKs could have *five* different blade lengths.

the common way to measure HI kukris is overall length. so, somewhat obviously, the handle length is the variable factor...

i just got a 18 inch AK that has exactly the same length blade (as in the metal portion), as a 17.5 inch GRS - the difference is 1/2 long handle on the AK. additionally, the GRS is 2 oz heavier as well. this does mean i have more leverage and grip options on the AK though - and it feels a trifle livelier for the length over the GRS. both are fantastic.

a 20 inch AK should be heavier, and have a theoretically longer handle, but ou never know. it coudl be 2 oz more, or as much as 8 oz more if the kami was enthusiastic - more so in the thickness of the blade as well. hard to say.

the best thing to do would go through a lot of older DOTD posts, find the blade sizes you want, and take notes. also, check the past ebay ads, michigan knives just sold a 20 inch AK, and there have been others.

bottom line: if you want a certain size/weight, write HI and ask for it, even specify handle material and other details. then be hopeful :)

good luck

Thanks for the replies guys I have a email in with Yangdu but thought I could get a fast answer by posting as well.

Yea there is just too much variety for us to give you one answer here. The beauty of HI knives is that they are fashioned one at a time. I ordered a special Foxy Folly from Yangdu not long ago, and it was right on, so if you order from her directly it takes the guess work out. She's super with customer service too, so it will be a pleasure to deal with her. ;)

I have an 18" villager AK that weighed 28 oz out of the box and has a 12.5" blade. To me it is about the max as a practical one-hand chopping tool; I like it a lot. Next up the size scale is my 22" GRS villager at 37 oz. If I ever chop with this one I would probably use 2 hands. I think your best bet would be an 18" AK or GRS. Enjoy.

Yeah, they have to be on the list. And the list must keep expanding. Otherwise, after collecting and using HI blades for awhile, you may find yourself painted into a corner with no more new khuk options. A fate worst than death.:D

Thanks guys I ended up purchasing 2 of the 18" AK's from Yangdu who shipped em out today for me, thanks for the info and suggestions.
