Got my first khuk yesterday:D
18 inch 32 ounce Dui chirra by Vim Kami. Satisal wood handle. Leather scabbard. This knife came without the six tools.
DOTD here: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=758546

It's taken a week to fly to me, but the wait was wort it! Welcome to Africa baby!
Being my first blade of such sort all I could say, after carefully unpacked the famous triangle box, was WOW!:D What a beautie!
The blade is perfect: in size, in shape, in workmanship.
Out of the box only the belly was paper cut sharp, the rest was actually left blunt, don't know if that's how they come, but it is not a trouble at all as I would re-sharpen it nevertheless.
First impressions in hand - forward balanced khuk, but it sits just so well in my hands it's very comfortable.
Straight out of the box and in to the wood: - I've chopped some VERY dry palm leaves, those are very hard at the stems when dry.
What do you know...one shot...2m stem down. Cut right through it (4") in a single half-hearthed blow. I did some more bush waking for about half hour and took some pictures in a hurry (work calls)
I will post here more real action when time allows.
Here we go:

I love the spine shots on these behemoths, she's a beauty.

Just be careful and smart in her use ,dan and she should give you years of service. But be aware that the Dui Chirra is not warranted against breakage if used for chopping/splitting wood as outlined in the H.I. Limited Lifetime warranty.

Glad to hear that you and your first khukuri are together. That is a beautiful khuk you got there. I know that you'll have lots of good times with it. Having the belly sharp is good since its the hardest part of the blade and thus a little harder to sharpen. The rest is softer and will be easier to put a good edge on.

Not that different from an SCAK at all. I am surprised they are not equally warranted...

Great that it is there and you are happy Dan. What's a "mm" or "cm" or "gr"? Just kidding...

I hope you post some other pix of the scenery for me so I can remember what it looks like... or see how it has changed from the late 80's early 90's. I am sure you will be showing this thing of to your mates and then they'll be here needing one too. Maybe you can even sell them there and make yourself a bit of change. :)

That's a sharp looking blade. Look how thick the spine on it is. Nice!

I don't get it either. Is the heat treat different (through hardened)? Is it the fullers? That thing is thick, full tang and heavy. If you can't chop with it, what is it's function? Ornamental?

it has been covered a couple times, once up in the cantina, usually Stickfred posts the links since I am forgetful as to where I saw the stuff...

Thanks for mentioning this...I actually didn't know there's different war. terms. I take care of and don't misuse my tools (normally) so the khuk won't be any different. It will be put under stress though. If it breaks, so be it, but it will be sad.

WARTY

Well I'm European after all :D

I will post asap. In fact WE ( me & khuki) are going to the Vall for 3 days, but it's winter now so no too much greenery.
yeah, it has crossed my mind to trade some, but only time will tell. Actually my partner (as in business) shouted "... a Kukri" right after I've flashed it before his eyes. He's also "been around"...if you know what I mean;)

BTW check you kami-key tread, I'll post my kami pic.

I should post the new one but it turned out to be 1.5M PDF even after I made all the pix as light weight as I possibly could without loosing resolution. I think I ill anyway, here is the link for those who wish to DL version 1.0 and I will also add this link to the Kami ID thread...

Kami Key v1.0

The Dui Chirra looks great! Glad to hear it fits your hand very well, took me a little while to find the right khuks for me.

Thanks 7rip,
It took me "a while" too...( I was fighting the HIKV...but it got me good in the end:D)
I actually wonder why it's a blem? (if it is one at all) I can't find anything visibly wrong with it apart from the slightly dented point of the scabbard.
Warranty or not, I'm planning on sharpening it and beating the lights out of it for a few days ( in the good sense). Then I can take it with me and rely on it. Only way I see to prove worthiness. Still I hope it holds it's own as it's become little expensive to trow away, with duty+tax etc etc $200 flat. Not complaining in any way...just for the record.

HIKV never fails. Great to hear you're gonna put it to heavy use, can't wait for the results. Don't forget to stay safe out there.

You Dui Chirra is not a blem. The price was probably reduced due to the lack of the accompanying tools. HI doesn't make a khukuri that's just for show. The Dhankuta comes close but when Bill was in Nepal and saw Bura making a Dhankuta he told him that he didn't need to make the blade as thick as he was since this khuk would be for show. Bura's response was that someday the owner may need to defend himself or his family with it and he was making the blade so that it would perform that function.

The Dui Chirra came about as a result of copying an older blade owned by Forum member (& HI Research Librarian) Berlkey. It isn't covered under the warranty for Field use probably because it is more of a special run. All HI khukuris are made to work, though. I'll happily chop with my Chainpuri, Gelbu Special or Malla and not have a worry. About the only failures I've heard of are tang failure that is a result of inadvertent or sloppy quenching of the tang making it brittle and thus prone to breakage.

Thanks man.
Now here's a piece of history I didn't know.
The more I learn the less I know:rolleyes:

I'm not gonna abuse it ( as such) but will use it as hard as I can. ( i would probably reach my limit sooner than the blade's anyway)
