Here is Sher's notion of what an 18 inch WWII model should look like. In profile it does look pretty close, only a half inch over in length but it's about 50 or 60 percent on the heavy side. This version weighs about 2.5 pounds and is 9/16 thick!

This is a ten out of ten rig -- everything excellent -- but I can't sell it as a WWII model because it is too much oversize.

Who wants this Sher WWII for $125 and write a report. And, we will pay shipping.

Call or email if intererested.

Khukuri FAQ

Will, I do have a GRS, and I'd be willing to bet that this khuk and the GRS perform equally as well. As soon as I have a chance to put this one through its paces I'll let you know. I have a hunch that this particular khuk will be among my favorites because of its stoutness and as well as the curve of its blade. Its blade appears to have a more curved radius (which I prefer) as compared to the more abrupt, angular drop of the conventional WW II blades. I look forward to getting it in hand and trying it out.

I just received this khukuri last evening, so I haven't had a chance to give it any kind of a workout. But I have to say that based on looks alone this khuk is an absolute winner. The thing that sets the Sher version apart from the standard WWII is the curve of the blade. In my opinion, the drop of the standard WW II's blade is a bit too abrupt, too angular. The blade of the Sher WW II is more gently radiused and looks very much like older khuks I've seen pictures of. (Dan K, I think you would really, really like this one.)

Actually, I think the Sher version should be made the HI standard WWII. I'd be willing to bet that if the matter were put to a vote by the forumites (and providing that everyone were able to actually handle both the standard and the Sher versions) the Sher would win, hands down.

This weekend I'm hoping to put this one through its paces. I'll post my impressions immediately afterward.

IMHO, I like both. The smooth, gentle curves on this one are very aesthetically pleasing, and I also would like to see more WWII's with blades shaped like this one. However, I am also fond of the old Shop 1's WWII blade shapes, and I'd like to see HI have some of both blade shapes on hand in various configurations (horn, wood, standard spike tang, chiruwa, hanuman, etc.)

Stocking just a few of both blade types for a while would also tell Uncle Bill which one is more popular, or whether there is a decent, steady demand for both.
