I'm sending this one to my 16 year old nephew, who will be entering the Marine Corps in August 2005. I just sent him an e-mail warning him that khukuris "tend to be pretty sharp right out of the box" :D I'm sure Dan Koster will get it shaving sharp and then some... In the e-mail, I attached links to the HI website, so he can learn about khukuris, Ghurkas, Nepal, etc.

I warned him to be very careful, and told my brother that a funny looking triangular box will soon be on its way. I really hope that he takes an interest; not only will he begin to learn about knives and maintaining them, but he'll soon have a nice collection of khukuris if he shares his interest with Uncle Dan. :)

Nice gesture Drdan...
I bet the neighbors will no longer need to worry about low tree limbs. :D

BTW, if you ever wish you had another nephew, I'm available for adoption...
All joking aside, thats great...You'll have to let everyone know what he thinks of it.

Your 18" kobra is actually 19.5"... :D :D

And it's a beauty. The handle fits my hand perfectly and even my wife likes it. I wonder how it will do out "in the bush"...? Seems like it would fit the request someone had here a while back for clearing brush, etc.

Was that you, Doc?

Pen-- do you still have those paper-severing videos? :D

shhhh....

I don't think the Doc has seen those yet...

Don't you think for safety's sake you should show the good doctor what "then some" actually means?;)

Yes....*groan*....but this is so much fun!

Plus after a full day's work behind the belt grinder, I think the metal dust has gone to my head...:(

Just for kicks I went ahead and made some more videos...:D

Kobra make a good box cutter? (126 KB)

After that, I did a bunch more...couldn't get enough of it...

Still Sharp?

One more paper test (66 KB)

No stropping, no sharpening, nothing. Cut through 15 USPS triangle boxes (psst...don't tell Uncle Sam  ) and went straight to the paper test. There's still a little bit of "gummmy stuff" on the blade from cutting the boxes.

What a khukuri!

I'm certainly impressed - gonna pay more attention to the Kobra deals Uncle's had around here.

What kind of sharp is this? Scary? I was laughing hysterically after viewing each video. :D My nephew will immediate be sent the link so he can laugh along. If my brother ever saw these videos, my nephew would not be able to take possession of the knife. ;)

I think I'll get you to tweak each of my khukuris before they make the trip over the pond as the English would say. I can imagine what your blade tweaking perfection is like when "the works" is requested. Don't you dare send the kamis a copy of the videos, or one of your completely worked blades.     :D :D

On second thought, it's best not to mention anything; I don't want to get charged for the "extra bit of khuk" he sent. :)

He's in Palm Springs, and all the trees there are either nursery purchased ornamental or cacti... If he does experiment with the khukuri, I'm gonna have one p%$£#d off brother e-mailing me in the next few days. :D
