All from one deceased man's estate, I guess he liked knives. The knives look like they range in age from the early thru mid-20th century.

Nice find! Can you post some more pictures of that Wade and Butcher?

- nice find there, well done.

They were no doubt his pride n joy at one time.....now yours!

An eclectic collection, some nice finds there

Score! That imperial fish knife looks to be in primo condition. I love the looks of those fish knives.

I am digging that schrade walden trapper on the bottom still in the box.
Have a tang stamp/age for it?

Yes indeed that looks to be a real nice haul.. the Schrade Walden Trapper would be a 293 made from 1953-1973. With the clear tube my guess would be delrin handles from the 1960's..The 294 has a clip and a pen blade. It could be a 291 with a clip and spey and brass shield...that would be a real find.

Looks like you snagged some nice knives in that group.

I mean no offense to you gben, because I do the same thing, but in the last few years I've been involved in auctioning the estates of my Mother & some relatives. It's kind of sad to think that a person spends their lifetime gathering things that are important to them, then when they die, people buy up their stuff for a couple dollars a box full.

Sorry! I don't mean to bum anybody out. It's just something I started thinking about as I got older.

I would rather my knives go to someone that will appreciate them than have them shoved in an attic and forgotten about by an ungrateful family member.

Great finds!

Why sad? As you said a person accumulates stuff that is important to him. That doesn't necessarily mean that stuff will be important to those that follow. It isn't good or bad, it just is.

People value things differently. If you want your heirs to cherish those things you find important you need to make sure they know what those things to you. Otherwise it's just stuff.

Very valid point And connects with Christian's observation about the relative value of stuff. Everything is transient, all our things, property etc. This is actually comforting provided we feel somebody else will appreciate them and derive the same kind of pleasure that we in our time had from our temporary possessions.

I feel the same as NJBillK. I never married and I don't have any kids.. most of my friends are as old as I am so I know my collection will be sold off. I've spent a lot f time and money collecting customized Schrades by Herman William's and like most of us I've collected for the enjoyment, not for investment. Herman and I spent more than a year putting together a 34 knife set of Schrade's all re-handled in White bone. I can't stand the thought of that set being parted out so I've made arrangements for it to go intact to a local VFW in it's display frame with the stipulation that if at any time it's not being displayed it goes to to a VFW that will display it. They are great American knives, made with American Steal, and I want them to be enjoyed by Americans... I can't think of anyone more deserving than our Vets. There are 33 in the frame but I've added one since the picture was taken.

It doesn't look to have a brass shield, but the main does look like a clip and the secondary looks to be full length. Due to that I am thinking you are spot on with the 293.

Did Schrade Walden make an improved trapper with a full size Wharncliffe secondary?
Regardless, the above stated knives are going to be watched for intently!
Thanks!

No need to apologize, it is a valid question and viewpoint. I just prefer to look at it as, those who like good knives, will seek out quality pieces, regardless of their origin. Be it Ebay, Craigslist, the exchange here, or prying it from my cold dead hands...
A good knife is nothing other than that, thankfully there will always be people who appreciate exactly that.

Gben, could we see are pic of the Schrade Walden with the blades opened?
Thanks!

I'm not trying to hijack your thread but thought since there was some interest in the old Schrades I'd post this pic for your enjoyment
