Call it what you will, here is my new hand forged Trade Axe from H&B Forge. Their site lists it as “Large Camp Axe”, but I have seen the same design listed as a Trappers Axe, or Polled Tomahawk, even “Mountain Man or Frontier’s Axe”.
I wanted something a little heavier than a hatchet with a longer handle, hand forged in the USA.
Specs:
Head Weight- 1.25 pounds
Overall Weight- 1 pound 13 ounces
Haft length- 20” Hickory
Blade Bit- 4”
Sheath- Leather

I've been on the fence about their medium camp axe, so I'm really looking forward to a review of this. The pics make me want to order now though...

Looks nice.

What do you like better about that style compared to something like the GB hatchets? Do you use it mostly for splitting, limbing, etc... ?

Also, how do you like that Benchmade?

Just be aware of the weight listed on their site, they are not correct. We used the medium at a class last year and it was more like hatchet weight.

I like the idea of this being made in the tradition of the 18th century woodsmen. It can be rehafted easily and carried as a head only item. I also like that it is made in the US.

Ummmm. Wow. Way cool. I have been looking for this exact style and the price point is spot on. Thank you! Going to place an order!

Cool. Very reasonable price too.

I got the same one two years ago, can`t say enough good things about it, quality all the way.

Looks like a good little axe. Haven't been in the market for a new axe in a long while, may have to start looking around at them again.

How does it compare to your cold steel frontier hawk? (IF there is a comparison)
Lookin' forward to your full report:thumbup:
